The Palapa Society & The Pool - A hearty thanks to Adi Nuńez for her time to receive suggestions and problems reported from the TS community at "LA ESQUINA" Cafe.
The Palapa Society has an on going commitment to
this community to clean up and refurbish the
municipal pool on Topete street. An official written estimate to do this work was submitted by the Palapa
Society and received by the municipal government exactly 3 years ago. We never did receive an answer at all from the recipients. It was learned at this recent
meeting that the pool is designated as a "Historic Monument". The pool was only built about 24 years ago so that's odd ? Regardless, it would be prudent to
maintain historic monuments.
The object of the proposal of The Palapa Society is to raise funds for and have professionals oversee the reconstruction of the pool and surrounding patio area. Then present the
finished product to the county with a yearly allocated budget for maintenance and salaries for required personnel.
We intend to pursue this project with the help of Adi Nuńez. We invite any and all TS residents and friends to participate in generating the needed funds or volunteering their time or expertise to the pool project. Donations are gratefully accepted. Mark Your Calendar! - The date is set and the party is moving forward! Come join us, FORTALECER, for a fun evening of music, food, and the (almost) world premiere of Neil Young and local resident Mike Cerre's new movie, CSNY/Deja Vu. This movie has only been shown at the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival. It is their commentary on the Viet Nam and Iraq wars. We are privileged to be able to show it here Thursday, May 22, at La Esquina. Doors open at 7:00 PM and we will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, beer, wine, and sodas while you listen to live music. The movie will be shown at dusk. Tickets are $10.00 and are available at El Tecolote and La Esquina. Sirius And XM Reception - does anyone have experience with a car adapter for Sirius or XM radios that reliably receives down here? I have a car antenna that is not much over 1" square and it doesn't get enough signal to work reliably. thanks. - Tom Gafford, tag[-at-]gafford.com, Todos Santos

Tom, you didn't say which radio you have but I can tell you the Sirius radios and car antennas work fine down here. We have a magnetic antenna mounted on the roof of each of our vehicles. Even the Sirius indoor antennas will work outside or on the dashboard if you need to use one of those instead of the car antenna.
The Sirius antennas will also plug into and work with XM radios but XM's satellites seem to be more directional than the ones used by Sirius, and it's harder to point the antenna correctly. Sirius satellites tend to beam their signals from the Northeastern sky. Both antennas are usually available at Best Buy in the US. I have only seen XM antennas offered at Wal-Mart. - Alan

Dish Network TV Scams? - Beware of offers here in BCS to install a Dish Network system where you are asked to pay for programming in advance, usually at the rate of $150 per month. These receivers are illegally tied to a master Dish Network account owned by someone else. You may be asked to pay up to $1,800 in advance for a year of programming. You will not own the receiver, and you will not own the account. These bogus accounts can and will get shut down once Dish Network finds out what's going on.
There is also no guarantee the installer will not take your money and stop paying for the programming before the year is up, leaving you with a useless receiver that cannot be transferred to you or re authorized. You do not need to buy into such scams to receive Dish Network here in Baja. You can receive up to 300 Dish Network channels with a legitimate receiver and account that you own.
