Todos Tortugueros, A.C. Recycling Program On Holiday - The recycling program will shut down until mid-October to re-group and find a larger space. I’d like to thank everyone who brought material to us and supported the center with donations. It would not have been possible without the help of volunteers, Zandra, MaryAnn, Sam, Tallulah, Serena, Sylvia, Silvio and the children from our summer environmental education program. Please don’t throw away your recyclable material, we will re-open. SINADES, A.C. in cooperation with Sueño Tropical have emptied their recycling center in Pescadero and asked that we not bring any more material until after the rainy season.

Todos Tortugueros, A.C. is planning an intensive education program in the primary school Meliton Albañez and the Internado that will tie turtle conservation to recycling. The program is based on SEMARNAT’s “escuela limpia” recycling program and will involve over 600 children in recycling at school and at home. Donations are needed to implement this much needed program. Patricia Baum, Todos Tortugueros, A.C. - Patricia Baum, teampaty1[-at-],, 612 145-0882

Transportation Dispute Affects Tourists in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur (Courtesy, Baja Pony Express)

U.S. Consulate General Tijuana, Mexico
August 5, 2008

The Consulate General in Tijuana is providing this notice to U.S. citizens in the area to ensure that they are aware of a potential for ground travel disruption and extended travel times in and around San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.

The Consulate General has received reports that taxi drivers have tried to prevent tour vans from transporting American tourists to and from resorts in the Cabo San Lucas area. Taxi drivers and tour van drivers are engaged in a longstanding dispute over which group has the right to transport passengers on state, local, and federal roads. In recent incidents, taxi drivers have forced tour vans and busses to stop and disembark their passengers, who must then seek alternate transportation.

The governor of Baja California Sur asked for support from federal authorities, and approximately 250 federal police were deployed to prevent an interruption of travel services at hotels and van services.

U.S. citizens living or traveling in Mexico for more than one day are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy or nearest U.S. Consulate through the State Department's travel registration website, and to obtain updated information on travel and security within Mexico. U.S. citizens without Internet access may register directly with the U.S. Embassy or nearest U.S. Consulate. By registering, U.S. citizens make it easier for the Embassy or consulate to contact them in case of emergency.

The nearest consular section serving San Jose del Cabo is the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana (Avenida Tapachula 96, Col. Hipodromo; telephone (52) (664) 622-7400). In addition, there is a U.S. Consular Agency to provide emergency citizen services in Cabo San Lucas (Blvd. Marina Local C-4, Plaza Nautica, Col. Centro; telephone (52) (624) 143-3566).

We have a few things (furniture/boxes) that need transporting and we'd be happy to chip in for your fuel for the trip if you can bring our "stuff" with you. Tuesday Movie Night At Buena Vida - This Tuesday we will be showing "Bottle Rocket" The sweet oddball gem, which marked the acting debuts of Owen and Luke Wilson, also introduced the world to the quirky directorial vision of Wes Anderson. It is an offbeat comedy about average to less than average guys trying to become criminals. It did very well in Sundance and is one of our favorite movies. If you haven't seen it you must see it. If you have seen it then come see it again We will open at 6:00pm for dinner service and start the movie around sundown which is around 8:30. If you have any question please give me a call. - Jessie Rutowski, Jessie Rutowski, 6121343100, Todos Santos
