 Quotes from
The Complete Life's Little Instruction Book
by J Jackson Brown, Jr

Remember that the word discipline means "to teach."

Never give an anniversary gift that has to be plugged in.

Give handout materials after your presentation, never before.

Never leave a youngster in the car without taking the car keys.

In verbal confrontation, lower your voice to the
degree that the other person raises his or hers.

Spend your time and energy creating, not criticizing.

Don't be afraid to say, "I need help," or "I made a mistake,"
or "I don't know," or "I'm sorry."

Keep a note pad and pencil on your bedside table.
Million-dollar ideas sometimes strike at 3 a.m.

Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart
and be quick to acknowledge those who help you.

Don't waste time learning the "tricks of the trade."
Instead, learn the trade.

 The Seasons of Life

by Jim Rohn

In this book, Jim show's the parallels between life and the changing seasons. To realize that the seasons will change without fail and what we can do to utilize each season to get the greatest rewards. It is based on the parable of the sower and the reaper. What to do in one season to ensure success in another season. **Great for those who are going through difficult times personally or financially, because it helps them see that this "winter" in their life will eventually give way to ""spring."

A book of ideas and observations that attempts to place life, its events, purpose, opportunities and challenges into perspective.

Topics Include:

  • The Cycles and Seasons of Life
  • The Effect of Environment on Circumstance
  • The Value of Attitudes
  • The Constant, Predictable Patter of Change
  • The Spring
  • The Summer
  • The Fall
  • The Winter
  • Defeat -The Best Beginning

What awesome, amazing life-changing stuff. You have added a richness to my life that I will be forever grateful for. My best response is to incorporate as much of your teaching as possible into my coaching programs. One of my coaching clients has had his life completely changed by listening to your tapes and reading your wonderful book "Seasons of Life." Even his 9-year-old son now goes off to sleep at night with your tapes playing. God bless you. -- Brian Maguire

As usual, this is great food for thought. This material is making a significant difference in my life. I read a book recommended by Jim Rohn while baby-sitting some computer systems. I worked from 8 PM until 5 AM and I was amazed how much I was able to absorb while working all night. I think it is going to be a great year and I feel that I am already ahead for the year. I love the phrase "the book you don't read won't help you." Boy, did that wake me up! Many thanks for the truly inspirational material on "Cultivating an Unshakable Character" and the "Seasons of Life." -- C. Naseer Ahmad, Azizia International Inc.

Mr. Rohn is my favorite speaker. I especially enjoy the topic "Seasons of Life." It really a affected my life by adding so much understanding about life. Thanks. -- Jim Wilson

I bought The Seasons of Life and The Treasury of Quotes from National Telephone Communications Company for training and it helped me grow in all aspects of life. -- William A. Kalpakoff, Luresnmore.com

This is one of my favorite books and one of my mentors. I've been listening to Jim Rohn since 1980. This is the first book of his I read and have read it many times. It's an easy read--only just over 100 pages, but a powerful teaching worth revisiting again and again.

Enjoy!

I Gotta Recommend This Book Again!

It is often that I get excited about a book I've read. I always have a new book going, so I get excited a lot. This is rare in the CTS IdeaLetter that I would repeat so soon something about a book featured in the Knowledge Cafe, but I just have to go on a rampage of appreciation about this book.

I have read hundreds of business books and have liked many, many of them. I learn something from each and some have helped me dramatically. Frankly, none come close to this book.

If you're in business for yourself, you have to read this book. If you're working for someone else, you need to read this book. If you have anything to do with business, read this book and if you are alive and breathing, it is a good idea to read this book. Don't like to read? Buy it as an audiobook and listen to it--over and over again. I bought both. Buy the MP3 version and you can make your own CD's or put it on your MP3 player while you're working out.

This book is a wealth of common sense, astonishing wisdom, logical conclusions and masterful direction. You will thank me later, but go buy it now.

And check out their company: 37 Signals.com. We use their Basecamp and Highrise products and they are super.
Highway Products Help You Do More

With a 3/4-ton single rear wheel truck, you can get as much done as a much larger dual rear wheel 1-ton truck, but the problem will always be load versus GVWR. The photo above is a great answer to have this sweet loaded Dodge crew cab and have a serious work truck at the same time. Use aluminum for the bed. It's very lightweight and super strong at the same time, so you can carry more stuff instead of hauling around a heavy steel body and much less of the things you need to carry.

Here is a custom unit from Highway Products in Southern Oregon. Don't let their location throw you because they ship all over the world. This unit starts with their aluminum HD flatbed and adds aluminum underbed boxes with a very attractive wheel well insert, then to top it off and make it really useful, check out these contractor style boxes with the big compartments and the open top lids for all the small parts, or really long tools. It all works together to create a serious work truck in a uplevel, comfortable truck, and it is very fuel efficient, and cost effective. The body will outlast the truck, so you can use this body for several trucks!

Call my friend, Jim Lenford, sales manager at 800-866-5269. You can also buy right on their website at www.highwayproducts.com.

Autocrane Service Truck with EnPak
by Lee Transport Equipment

We have completed the first of ten Auto Crane Service Trucks for our local Caterpillar dealer. The first three have a Miller EnPak. The EnPak is a stand-alone power unit run by a 27hp Kubota diesel engine (runs from truck fuel tank) that has the capability to power up to a 10,000 lb. hydraulic crane, 120/240 ac power with 6kw, run three different models of the Miller suitcase welders, recharges the trucks batteries, and last but not least, has a 40cfm rotary air compressor. Whew! That's a working package!

This set-up costs about $6k to $11k more than a conventional PTO set-up, yet this can be money well spent because fuel savings are calculated at about $1,800 per year, and the truck will have much less engine hours recorded. This can help save on costly rebuild or premature replacement of the much more expensive main motor. Also, the preventative maintenance interval will come down substantially saving more, and of course this is definitely a "Green Initative."  These 10 trucks will have the Auto Crane 10006H with the just released NexStar control system.

My thanks to Mike Kilpatrick, Product Manager at Lee Transport Equipment Inc of Columbia, South Carolina for these shots and information. You can call Mike at 803-768-2043. The main line for Lee Transport Equipment is 877-799-7860 and website is http://www.leetransport.net/.

Working 11' SuperStructure Caught In Dixon

While having lunch at Mary's Pizza in Dixon, CA, I spied this nice working truck. It's an 11' CTEC (California Truck Equipment Company of Downey, CA). It's mounted on a Ford F350 84" CA chassis cab. Looks like the rack area is used a lot considering the two ladders to get up and down and there sure is a lot of space up there. There is also a nice conduit box on the streetside. Notice also the light bars on the cab roof and at the top of the rear on the body. What else is interesting is the vented rear doors on the body and the running boards on the chassis.

You can call CTEC at 800-567-2832 and visit their website at www.ctec-truckbody.com.

This unit was owned by California Water Service Company, and back in the day, we used to sell them many units. They were great customers.

Knapheide KUV-CC Spotted In Chico, CA

This is a sweet rig--a Knapheide KUV-CC on a crew cab Ford chassis. Notice also the Tommy Gate Aluminum Liftgate which helps get those really heavy things in and out and save a good deal of weight at the same time.

This truck belongs to Leo Gunther of Leo Gunther Enterprises in the Chico, CA area, who specializes in Audio and Video Solutions. They do small jobs, but also do large jobs like stadium sound systems, large building systems, conference center audio-visual systems and much more. You can reach them at 530-321-9057 and visit their website at http://www.leoguntherent.com/. They also have another site selling pro audio equipment: http://www.proaudioblowouts.com/.

Thank you to John Lawless, associated with the National Ford Truck Club for sending me this shot.

  Autohome Takes Delivery On Renault

UK and European Assistance Breakdown company, Autohome, has taken delivery of a new Renault Master and two Renault Midlum 280.14 trucks, through Renault Trucks distributor, WTL Truck & Van Centres Ltd (WTL). One of the Renault Midlums has a specialist, high spec crew cab and is fitted with a Zacklift under lift body for vehicle recovery and the other Renault Midlum has a tilt and slide body.

The vehicles join a mixed fleet of 15 trucks and vans and will operate as part of the company's UK and European breakdown service. The new additions are part of Autohome's fleet expansion programme.

James Robinson, Managing Director, Autohome, says: "We have a number of Renaults already on our fleet and we are choosing to move towards more Renaults in the future, mainly because of the service and back up we receive from Renault Trucks and WTL. The high spec crew cab on the Midlum was also especially important to us, so that we can comfortably carry passengers after attending breakdowns. With the vehicles working all over the country, as well as the Continent, we need reliable vehicles which, based on our experience, is another reason for our decision to purchase more Renaults."

Based in Northampton, Autohome was established nearly 40 years ago, offering 24 hour breakdown assistance. The company has an extensive network of recovery specialists and its own fleet, enabling it to provide premium recovery service throughout Europe.

Isuzu NPS 4x4 Bush Bus For South Africa

I thought this was a very interesting commercial truck. It is an Isuzu NPR 4x4 single rear wheel 3-tonner (6,000 kg GVM/13,227 lbs GVWR) and in this case has been made into an open air "bush bus" (my name not theirs). It looks pretty comfortable up there, and I'm sure it is plenty airy too.

This shot is from Isuzu Truck of South Africa and I love it--the color too! See all the models Isuzu sells in South Africa at http://www.isuzutruckssa.com/

The Mercedes-Benz Atego 1224 L Automatically Places And Picks Up Cones
"Trafiq" from Udenhout (Netherlands) recently started using the new Mercedes-Benz Atego 1224 L

The Atego automatically places cones for lane closures and picks them up again

Safe working conditions and practical vehicle equipment were the two priorities

Safety and fast traffic flow on roads are crucial. Unavoidable delays caused by roadworks annoy road users, to the extent that roadworkers are often the target of aggressive behaviour which occasionally results in dangerous situations. The ability to close a lane quickly and safely is therefore quite literally a matter of life and death. Bodybuilder "Trafiq" develops, builds, markets and maintains roadworks systems which make it easier, faster and safer for all those involved in roadworks. The affiliated company "Trafrent" rents out the systems along with the experienced staff that set them up.

Mercedes-Benz Atego 1224 L with a body from "Trafiq"

A new Mercedes-Benz Atego 1224 with an automatic transmission recently joined the fleet. The fuel tank and batteries have been integrated into the frame to facilitate the specialist work undertaken by "Trafiq", creating sufficient space for a system which places cones automatically on the road. The 275 cones in the Atego are placed and picked up at a speed between 15 and 25 km/h, providing a safe solution as personnel no longer have to put out the cones manually one by one while the traffic rushes past. The driver operates the entire system automatically from the Atego cab. For safety reasons, equipment such as a rumble strip or a mobile lane closure trailer can also be deployed fully automatically from the cab.

Good track record

Commercial vehicle dealer Rüttchen Tilburg supplied the Mercedes-Benz Atego 1224 L, the second vehicle of this type in the "Trafiq" fleet. Last year the company took delivery of an Atego with the same configuration. Thanks to the superb results with the first Mercedes-Benz Atego, which proved a highly practical, reliable and convenient solution, when it came to buying a new truck the decision virtually made itself. The Mercedes-Benz Atego is expected to do around 50,000 kilometres a year.
