The Spirituality
of Success

Getting Rich
With Integrity
by Vincent M Roazzi

Recently, I heard about this book and based on the way it was recommended, I bought it immediately and started reading.

I love this book.

It is all about the background of being successful by being the kind of person that success is attracted to. And, at the same time, it is scientific in its explanations. That's a powerful combination.

Here's some of the bullet points on the back cover explaining some of the reason one may not have the success they desire:

  • Success is not logical
  • Failure is a learned trait
  • Your expectations become your excuses
  • Statistically, 93% of people have the wrong formula
  • Success is not a condition of life; it is a state of mind
  • Lack of success is not due to lack of ability
  • Most people unconsciously violate the rigid, universal laws of success
  • Success is not something you do; success is something you are
  • To achieve success, you must see and think the way successful people do
  • Today's goal-setting strategies create obstacles to achieving success.

I have to mention that this book is not the kind of book that you read through once and you're done. It is a book to read again and again and study. It is thorough and deep. Chapters are very short so you can skip around easily after reading through the first time.

Awesome book! I highly recommend it.

Stratec Locks!
 Stratec Lock
Recently, Strattec sent me 3 locks to try, one for GM, Ford and Dodge. I have to tell you that this is one sweet lock. The lock "codes" itself. You just take your ignition key, put it into the lock, turn it and unlock the lock. Now the lock is "coded" to that key only. Try another key and it doesn't work. It is just that easy.

Whether you use padlocks on your vehicle or storage facility or around your home, now you can have all the lock keyed to the ignition key of your GM, Ford or Dodge. You have got to try one of these locks to believe it. They aren't cheap, but they are heavy duty and they are an excellent value in my opinion. Try one and I know you will want more.

What To Stock

If you were going to stock commercial upfitted trucks and wanted to know the best trucks to stock, here is a good way to get started. Find one of the busiest highways near your dealership and take a couple hours two or three time in a week and watch traffic.

I suggest that you take a notepad and on the left side top to bottom, name the types of bodies that are pretty common, such as, service body, flatbed, stakebed, van body, cargo van, dump body, crane body, contractor body, plumber style body, etc. Get a comfortable chair and as vehicles drive by, when you see a commercial truck, put a mark next to the body on your sheet.

When you are done, tabulate the results and this would be a great mix of vehicles to start with. This isn't scientific, but it is very effective. I've seen a number of dealers who stock items in quantity that you see few of on the road and also stock few things when there are plenty on the road. Obviously, the ones on the road have been purchased from someone. We can just call this the market.

If you take the time to analyze even more closely, you could then improve your mix to insure that you have the right mix of single rear wheel, the right mix of bed length, colors, styles and so on. You could even take quick photos of each truck, then look at the photos.

I did this yesterday for only about 5 minutes on busy Interstate 80 and saw 10 service bodies, 3 van bodies, 4 cargo vans, 2 crane bodies, 2 contractor bodies, 3 flatbeds/stakebeds, and 2 plumber style trucks. Interesting. As you pay attention to what is already on the road, this will help you stock better levels and mix of inventory to maximize sales. This would be the core stock.

Reading Aluminum CSV Inside

Fairfield Chevrolet-Isuzu Truck of Fairfield, CA just received their first new Reading Aluminum CSV unit all the way from Reading, PA via ship through. The rack is a Reading rack, but was shipped loose for local installation due to height on the transport.

And a sweet unit this is! The body is so much lighter (up to 45% lighter than steel counterpart), that here is the best news about this type of rig: You can legally carry 2,900 lbs. in this unit! That is huge! It is only a 9,900 lb. GVWR unit. That means that this unit weighs in at only 6,500 lbs. That is incredible and so useful to the industry.

When you open the doors, you notice right away that they feel different. They are light, yet sturdy. You really notice it on the normally heavy rear doors. The single point slam latches operate very nicely and the doors shut easily with one hand. This unit is barely higher than a standard cargo van and only a very small amount wider, so wherever you can take a cargo van, you can take this unit.

This unit was ordered with all of the options available which includes electric locks with a key fob to lock and unlock all the compartment doors, compartment lighting system throughout, back-up alarm, hitch and plug, aluminum ladder rack, and cargo netting.

Top notch work from Reading Truck Body. This particular unit was secured through a Reading authorized distributor, West Coast Truck Equipment in West Sacramento, CA. Contact Reading directly at 800-458-2226 and visit their website at www.readingbody.com. You can contact West Coast Truck Equipment at 916-376-0690 and visit their website at www.westcoasttruckequipment.com.
Carter Industries Cone Body

Carter Cone Body4

This is an example of a Cone Truck Body that is manufactured by Carter Industries in Union City, CA. Michele Wieder of Carter Industries was so kind to send us the specs on this unit along with these photos. Thanks Michele! We're always looking for interesting photos of commercial trucks and getting the specs with it is way cool.

The unit shown in the photo is mounted on a 1-ton, 60" CA, in this case a CC31003 GM chassis. Here are the body specs from Carter:

  • Carter 8' or 9'x96" Apitong or Composite Deck Flatbed
  • 40" Tall steel headboard, perforated top half and solid bottom
  • 12" Tall steel stake gates with plywood skin (removable sides)
  • Tommy Gate Model 91-1350 1300 lb capacity liftgate. Platform size: 87"x36" plus 6" taper, treadplate steel painted black.
  • Strobe Beacon Light, model Whelen 2012HPA High Dome, mounted on top and center of headboard with cab switch.
  • Custom sign holder mounted to headboard curb side next to cutout
  • 2" Square receiver hitch, 7-blade trailer plug
  • Pintle/2" Ball Combo Hitch
  • Pintle mount
  • Custom compartment for chair and cone operator, driver & passenger sides.
  • 180 DEG Directional display panel, model National Signal, 36"x72"x25"

I noticed also in the photo that there is a steel plate on hinges to cover the seat area so as to be able to use the flatbed fully when that use is desired.

This is a nice package on a much less expensive 1-ton unit than the many cone bodies you see on the road. Give Carter a call at 800-310-6390 to find more interesting bodies that Carter can assist you with. You can call Michele directly at 510-477-8425. Also check out their constantly improving website at www.carterind.com. Oh, and did I mention, they have GREAT customer service? Okay, it's out now. It's true, they do.

This Scelzi 8' Service Body has a great option: Western Mule Bumper Crane. It takes up very little more space than the standard step bumper, yet has a great functional crane hidden in that space. Western Mule has a number of different models to suit many different needs.

The Old and the Newer

 Cargo Van

Trunnell

This is the precursor to the very common cargo van of today. I wonder if they had an Adrian Steel or MasterRack package in there. Sure looks like a great little work truck and a billboard as a side benefit.

What I love is to see a photo like this of a truck from the 30's & 40's and know that the company that drove it is still in business: W. K. Trunnell - Since 1936! Now called Trunnell Electric, located at 15754 Crabbs Branch Way, Rockville, Maryland. You can call them at 301-258-8300 and visit their website at www.trunnellelectric.com

Great 3/4-Ton All Around Ranch Truck

Ranch truck1

Ranch truck3

Ranch truck4

While we were at an event at Foster Lumber in Fairfield, CA, Bud Cravea of the Rocky Mountain Cattle Company drove this great truck in. It caught my eye as a perfect little truck around a ranch, so we took a closer look. We noticed it was a single rear wheel 3/4-ton 4x4 diesel, 56" CA pickup box delete chassis with an 8' flatbed with a tapered headboard.

We noticed that it has seen a good deal of use and that it had a gooseneck door in the bed. What we didn't notice right away was that it is also a dump. So Bud agreed to put the bed up and let us get some shots of the dump mechanism and the way the gooseneck is done.

I gotta say this is a great little all around truck for most any ranch. Loved the custom gates and load divider too. Thanks for the look Bud!
