This small volume is so packed with the wisdom of the ages.

Some quotes from the book will give you a good idea of its potential to help:

"The aphorism, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he," not only embraces the whole of a man's being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life. A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts."

"Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil."

"Every man is where he is by the law of his being; the thoughts which he has built into his character have brought him there, and in the arrangement of his life there is no element of chance, but all is the result of a law which cannot err. This is just as true of those who feel "out of harmony" with their surroundings as of those who are contented with them."

"The calm man, having learned how to govern himself, knows how to adapt himself to others. And they, in turn reverence his spiritual strength. They feel that they can learn from him and rely upon him. The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good."

This is a book to read again and again. You can read the whole thing in an hour or less. Soak in its wisdom and it will change you. And, all of that for less than $8 in the hardcover and less than $6 in the softcover. An unbelievable bargain!

Alum-Line Enclosed Service Body

4x4 Van

This is one of the more interesting service bodies I've ever seen. The shape is familiar, like a plumber style body or also called an enclosed service body, but the side doors and compartments are over the edge awesome! Look at the size of these doors and the horizontal one moves up and out of the way. Look at the space in these compartments.

If there is one thing about service bodies, it is that in a lot of cases you are limited in the size of items you can put in compartments. With these compartments, there is so much room and so many ways to use all that space, yet the compartments are only ever so slightly taller than a typical service body. Look how deep they are as well. Then consider the benefits of the fact that this is an aluminum body. This allows you to carry even more in those cavernous compartments.

The interior of this body can make great use of a bedslider to access equipment and supplies without climbing into the body. What a great combination that will make!

This great body is designed and built by Alum-Line, Inc. in Cresco, Iowa. Their website is at www.alum-line.com. Here's a link to the specs on this body: Specs. Call them at 800-446-1407.
Vickers Concrete Sawing 12' Saw Body

The Saw Body--part service body, part flatbed. It's designed to carry the very heavy concrete cutting machines and the large blades they use along with supplies and tools they need to get the job done. It comes with large compartments that are larger than on many service bodies, then there is the conventional liftgate on the rear to lift the heavy machine and get it on and off the truck and it also acts as a rear door to keep what's inside out of sight.

This unit appears to have been built by Western Truck Fab in Hayward, CA and is owned by Vickers Concrete Sawing Inc., The Service People, in business over 40 years. They have offices in San Francisco, Sacramento, Santa Clara, and Orange County.

Real work in action and using a great truck body. That's what I'm talkin' about!
Great Van Body Selection - Bickford Commercial
 4x4 Van

This is one of my favorite photos. It was taken in October, 2008 at Bickford Ford Commercial & Fleet Sales in Snohomish, Washington. Why a favorite? In my years of commercial trucks, I have never seen a better mix of van bodies on a dealer lot. There are single rear low height with FRP and front air dam, Tommy Aluminum Railgate upfit, an excellent mix with furniture attics, the Intercontinental HD aluminum van body (easily one of my all time favorites), and there is a mix of different chassis to accomodate a wide variety of uses and client needs.

In this photo there are 7 units, and although there were more on their lot, this is as perfect a mix as I would expect to find anywhere. Excellent job on inventory choices! You can contact Bickford Ford Commercial & Fleet sales at 866-508-8566. Talk to Chris Nunley, Todd Spradlin or Chris Webster. They have an effective and informative separate website at www.bickford.fordfleetvehicles.com.

The Scelzi Single Rear Wheel Contractor Body

4x4 Van

4x4 Van4x4 Van

This is a Scelzi single rear wheel Contractor Body and I think it is an interesting unit. The Contractor Body is a very popular body and is stocked in numbers all around, and 95+% of them are on dual rear wheel chassis and most of those are 12' units on an 84" CA chassis. It is an extremely common unit. The 14' and the 10' mounted on dual rear wheel chassis are around in very small quantities and the 9' single rear wheel unit like this is the rarest of them.

I think the biggest reason for that is people are used to the 12' and they just keep doing that. Sometimes I'm progressive and innovative and other times, I'm kind of stuck in my ways--my old thinking, if you will. When I first saw this combination, I didn't think much of it. I've changed my mind and I see a great value in this truck. Here's why:

  • This is mounted on a 56" box delete unit and can be mounted on a regular cab, extended cab, or crew cab.
  • In the photo above, this unit has a 2,005 lb. cargo capacity which is pretty hefty for this smaller size and certainly more than the heavier service body with rack and hitch.
  • This configuration will typically be carrying lesser loads than the typical service body on the same chassis. Even though there is open space for stuff, the things put on this unit are generally not permanent and they are things like hoses, wheelbarrows, small amounts of product, etc.
  • Just think of all the places that this small unit (same wheelbase as an 8' pickup, only about 1 foot longer and a couple inches wider, and about the same height as a pickup with a rack) can go that the most typical 12' dually with a 48" longer wheelbase cannot go.
  • Maneuverability is a huge consideration on job sites.
  • This will drive just like a pickup truck.
  • The rack is bolted on and that makes it removable.
  • It has great lockable storage including the open top upper box which is a good space for small parts or take the dividers out and use it for long things.
  • This opens a market for a lot of smaller customers like handymen and so on to move from the pickup with a shell to something a bit more useful.

I've seen the single rear wheel Contractor Body from other body companies and they are good. I do think that Scelzi has done a particularly good job in their design on the single rear wheel chassis. I like the use of the composite floor and gates. This body just looks great on this truck.

So, it goes to show you that you can teach an old dog new tricks. I've become a believer--but even more than that--a promoter. I think this is a great solution and it is now part of my stocking strategy! The Single Rear Wheel Contractor Body. It's a winner! Check out Scelzi's new website at www.seinc.com.

A.R.E. Commercial Shell w/Bedslider

4x4 Van

Will Duncan of Fairfield Chevrolet-Isuzu Truck in Fairfield, CA is showing off the A.R.E. DCU Commercial Shell with a Bedslider. This photo was taken at an offsite display, hence the Krispy Kremes and Starbucks Coffee on the bedslider.

This kind of unit is a hit with a lot of different small contractors and workers. Mounted on a 1/2-ton long bed, this gives the user a good deal of space and options of storing things in different ways. One of the best aspects is the Bedslider to never have to crawl into the back again--just slide it out and there it is.

This unit was supplied by Kevin Snedeker at Vaca Valley Truck & SUV in Vacaville, CA.
