For the price of one book at the bookstore, you can get 12 issues of a great magazine that will have many articles in every issue that will inspire you, entertain and enlighten you. What a bargain!

Success magazine started at the turn of the last century and toward the end of the last century it went away after such a long run. Now it is back and it is so far superior to what came before, that there is no real comparison.

It is now published by Darron Hardy and has some innovations like the DualDiscTM CD/DVD that is included with each issue. I can tell you that the DualDiscTM is probably my favorite part. Matter of fact, I just finished listening to this month's CD (March 2009 with George Foreman on the cover) and was fascinated by the interview with one of my favorite authors and marketing guru's Seth Godin. I highly recommend hearing it.

In addition to the unique Dual Disk, are powerful articles by the world's experts on success in a wide variety of fields and endeavors. I enjoy each and every one of them. There is something in each that helps me and I'm sure it will do the same for you. Check it out. The best part: It comes to me once a month and is always welcomed.

This book is for real. It was published in 1937 shortly after the book it is a parody of, How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. I used to own a copy of it and it is an exact to the sentence opposite of Dale Carnegie's classic. Now a collector's item in rare hardcover.

I used to carry it with me to use in sales training because sometimes it seemed like a saleperson would go to great ends to alienate people. So, I had a great time with this book. It is an interesting read for a page or two but you wouldn't want to reinforce that kind of thinking anyway.

Now, here's the real deal:

Sine the mid 1930's, this great book has changed many thousands of lives and helped them to improve and become better business people and in general, just better people. It is the kind of book that is worthy of reading again and again.

This book was the beginning of a career and a mission for one Dale Carnegie whose legacy continues on with training all over the world via Dale Carnegie Training.

For such a small amount as $9, this book is an incredible bargain. If you haven't read it or haven't read it recently, I recommend you pick up a copy today. Now is a great time! You can never have enough friends.
Greetings!

Good Dealer Websites

This is a new spot in the IdeaLetter where we share good dealer commercial websites that we find or are sent to us. Since we also build websites for commercial dealers, we are always looking for those who stand out ahead in website thinking.

This time the spotlight is on:

 COMMERCIAL TRUCK CENTERS

Welcome to Tuttle-Click Commercial Truck Centers. This site is a combination of their Ford and Dodge commercial operations in Irvine and Tustin. The commercial director is Sheri Schoonover who was just featured in a full page spread in the Ford Pros Magazine, a publication of the National Ford Truck Club. Here are some features of their website we appreciated:

  • Separate site from retail store
  • Easy navigation
  • Combines two makes with separate inventories in one site
  • Under Inventory tab is newsletter archive and sales specials
  • Under Products tab is break down of short overviews of Ford & Dodge models along with another tab for Body Types showing typical commercial truck bodies
  • Finance, Service & Parts tabs are better than many we have seen
  • Contact Us tab has directions, hours and contact names, phone, fax and email but lacks the most important thing: photos of real people.
  • Proprietary Business PartnerTM program
  • Tab as a link to the retail website
  • Home page photo show and links are good.
  • The inventory search is somewhat better than many we have seen.

I would suggest an improvement that the phone number be put on and made clear on every page. Right now, one has to look for it. It is on the home page, but it was the 6th time I looked at it that I found it. Getting people to call or come in would have to the the best response and let it not be the switchboard they get. All things considered, this site should serve the dealership well.

If you see a dealer commercial truck website that you think is a good one, please send it on to us. Email address at bottom of page

Carter Industries Unique Body

  4x4 Van
4x4 Van

This is a unique body from Carter Industries, Union City, California that I have always liked. It is a version of a Contractor Body (there are hundreds, or course) and what I like about it is the transverse compartment on top against the headboard which has a HD drawer assembly that can extend most of its length outside the body, and cooler than that is that it can be pulled out of either side of the truck!

I've seen several of this model body on various lots and only one with the polished stainless door as shown which is sweet looking. This one was caught on Future Ford of Roseville's lot in 2007. Add some polished Alcoa Wheels and there is a beauty!

I thought this body was a great idea and I love the box with the drawer, and I can think of some other places to make excellent use of this box.

Carter was a pioneer of the tall side box with two drawers in each compartment from which many manufacturers have made similar boxes because they were so popular.
They have now expanded their tall side box model to include boxes made out of diamond plate aluminum so the lids are incredibly light. You can see their models here: Carter Contractor Bodies.

Harbor Raised Cargo Bed Enclosure

Here is a Harbor raised cargo bed enclosure, which is a great stocking piece. Notice the top slides open to expose two thirds of the bed area. Protects larger cargo items from public view among other attributes.

Warner Bodies Gives Me Great Ideas!

More than anything else, I love finding new ways to solve problems for customers. One of the best ways to do that is to look all around and find other truck bodies that may already exist that can be used in a slightly different way by a customer who would not normally buy that model because it was originally designed for another user. The photos above are a perfect example.

I've seen a lot of fire equipment trucks, and when I saw these, I immediately thought of using them for various contractors and other users and how these designs could be a huge benefit to help them solve more of their problems and help them do their job easier and more effectively.

What I love her is the cab high body with the roll up doors. In this case, the doors are not in the way, so you can get right up to the body. I think this is an advantage. Notice on several there is a drawer in the first compartment behind the cab, so it is a transverse compartment (meaning it goes all the way through).

When you look at the next few photos, think of all the different kinds of things your customers carry and how they can carry even larger or different shape things in these bodies than the normal service body they may be buying. Notice also in the rear that it is not like a cargo bed enclosure, or even a low pro plumber type design, but is a compartment similar to the side compartments only larger and longer. Then, it has a slide out drawer to gain access to the contents all the way to the back. I can think of all kinds of items contractors can carry in here. Another benefit is that nothing is exposed. Out of sight, out of mind.

Then look at the larger size bodies and think of your customers who use larger service bodies or plumber bodies and look at the last few photos. Just imagine what could be going on inside these bodies! I especially love the yellow body in the larger photo. I can see a serious remodeler, mobile repair, or racing company using this unit. I love the roll up doors saying "come on in! We'll fix you up right here!"

These bodies may cost a bit more than a service body, but look at the solutions and the interest you will get from your customers. Of course, you can also use them for your fire customers. . .

Check out the entire website for Warner Bodies in Noblesville, Indiana. I expect they ship all over the country.
