Greetings!

Next week, on Thursday, 9/16, Unity centers around the world will celebrate our World Day of Pray. Through Silent Unity, we have held a vigil of continuous prayer, 24/7/365, for over 120 years. In honor of that, perhaps you'd like to join with me for a few moments of shared prayer. Do yourself the favor of silencing your phone, if you have a door, perhaps you could close it. If you don't have a door, do whatever it is you do to signal others that you'd prefer not to be disturbed. We won't be long...

Begin by simply relaxing into this moment. This moment is perfect. Anything that is causing you anxiety is either in the past or in the future. In this moment, you need only breathe. If you are comfortable doing so, close your eyes for just a few moments, and shift your awareness to your heart area. There is a center of wisdom within our hearts which is greater than the center of intelligence in our brain. Simply breathe, and allow whatever "issues" may be hovering around you to fade to the back for these few moments.

When feel a bit more grounded and centered, begin concentrating on something good in your life, something or someone that you appreciate. Genuine, sincere appreciation has been found to be one of the surest ways to shift our consciousness to one of Wholeness. (If you're interested, later on when we're done, visit the HeartMath website) In this moment, you may really appreciate the spouse who made your coffee, or the pet who was such a good companion when you were eight years old. You may genuinely appreciate the view out your window, or the safe new tires on your car. Continue to relax, focusing on your physical heart area, and allowing these feelings of appreciation to grow.

Allow yourself to shift into a few minutes of meditation. If you already meditate, you know what to do. If you don't, you'll be happy to know that meditation is nothing mysterious, and doesn't require a lot of training. Simply select a point of focus- perhaps counting your breaths, one through ten and then repeat. Perhaps you would like to focus on a word such as "Peace" or a short phrase, such as "I AM Love". Whatever you choose as a focal point, simply sit for a couple of minutes as you breathe with your attention on that focal point. If you realize you've drifted off into other thoughts, don't beat yourself up about it, just return your attention to your chosen focal point.

When your time of meditation comes to a close, move into a few moments of realization, followed by gratitude. We intentionally align ourselves with the Truth that we know and believe. From this centered space of relaxed, focused attention, join with me in knowing:

"There is only One Power, only One Presence, One Life active in the Universe. That Life is my life now, doing the restorative work within me that brings about physical health . I AM Whole and I AM thankful for the energy and well-being that I now claim. That One Presence is also the Life within all of those with whom I share my human experience, and there can be no separation. We are Oneness, and I AM thankful for the harmonizing faculty of Love, which is even now bringing us into peaceful relationship. I AM willing to forgive and I AM willing to be forgiven. In the Omniscience, Omnipotence, and Omnipresence of that One Power, there can be no absence or lack. There is a ever-flowing Source of Good available to me now. I claim willingness to release my fear, knowing that as I let go of that lesser belief, I AM able to accept the Infinite Good of Abundance which is all around me, simply awaiting my genuine acceptance of that Good. I AM so very thankful and appreciative of ALL the Good in my life, that which is already visible and known to me, and even more especially the Good that I cannot yet see with my human eyes. I know that this IS an abundant Universe, and I willingly, lovingly, thankfully accept my Good now."

Rest for a moment in the expansive feeling of Good within you. You do not need to beg, you do not need to cling, you do not need to worry. Simply remain willing and receptive to the ideas that Spirit will make known to you. Simply do what is yours to do when you know it is time to do it. Be thankful for your own willingness to show up, to listen, to hear, and to act. Feel the gratitude for all this and more that is within you, and allow that gratitude to flow forth from you with every opportunity. You are blessed and you are a blessing.

New Classes begin Soon...

Our two Licensed Teacher Candidates will be presenting non-credit classes soon! In addition, Rev. Nita will facilitate the final SEE credit class for this year. Our classes are interactive, informative, and present a wonderful opportunity to learn, grow, and meet those with whom you share this path of ever-increasing awareness. If you've got questions, just hit the "reply" button and ask!

Required texts are noted. Generally, at least a few copies will be available from the instructor, or you may seek out copies (used and new) through your favorite online booksellers. We do not charge for SEE classes - a love offering will be blessed at each class session.

"The Five Principles" (required text by Rev. Ellen Debenport )

09/25 - 10/23

The five principles are core teachings of the Unity spiritual movement, founded by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in 1889.  Here's your opportunity to work with these principles, test them,  apply them to your life, and  WATCH WHAT HAPPENS. This is an excellent class for students who may be new to Unity,  as well as seasoned students.

"Ask Yourself This" - A class about you (Required text by Rev. Wendy Craig-Purcell)

Wednesdays 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

09/26 - 10/24

Have you ever felt stuck? Are you wondering how to make changes that will bring a deeper dimension to your life? In this course we will embark on a five part exploration designed to acquaint you with the fine art of asking yourself the right questions to help identify your deepest beliefs, unlock your own inner brilliance and create the meaningful life you desire. This life-changing wisdom within you is just a question away waiting to be discovered. Join us as we begin the journey to awareness.

09/29 - 10/27

In this Unity Institute SEE credit class (required for those seeking Unity credentialing), you'll develop a working knowledge of our Truth Principles and the Twelve Powers. YOUTH ON THEIR OWN BACKPACK DRIVE UPDATE

from Susan Smith and The Community Outreach Committee

The Community Outreach Committee would like to thank everyone for all their generous contributions to Youth On Their Own (YOTO). We delivered 38 backpacks to YOTO, 28 filled with supplies that will help the students get started with school. The last 10 were delivered empty, however, we also brought in a large assortment of supplies that can be used to fill them up! We are still collecting school supplies and items for the YOTO Mini mall.

The last time I made a delivery I saw five young ladies at the YOTO office picking up items that would help them out as they manage to go to high school and to care for themselves at the same time. They all had backpacks picked out as well as bags of food and supplies from the Mini Mall. It was very gratifying to see these supplies in the hands of the students. I am grateful to be a part our generous and caring Unity community. I am also grateful for all the wonderful works being done by Tucson community organizations like Youth On Their Own that help those that need a hand up.

We will be providing an update in the next newsletter about our upcoming outreach efforts. Please let me know if you are interested in helping out in any way! Thanks again everyone!

SAVE THE DATE: Coming Events!

MOVIE NIGHT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

Stay tuned for more details coming soon for our Friday Movie Nights, to be held on the third Friday of each month (except December).

LEADERSHIP GATHERING OCTOBER 13 - 14

Friday evening/ Saturday (all-day)

Our Spiritual Community was founded with the intention of functioning within a method of leadership that is open, inclusive, and sustainable. Traditional leadership models place either the minister or the Board at the "top" of the flow chart, and all activities flow down through them to the congregation. More inclusive models use what is called the "Three-legged Stool" image: the Board, minister, and Congregation form three "legs" of governance, where all three are required to function properly. That is preferred over the old "top-down" model, but is still prone to instability if any of the three segments is not functioning optimally.

Rev. Jim Marshall will be facilitating an "Open Space Envisioning in Unity" event for us in October, and YOU are invited to participate. Our theme will be the future leadership structure of Unity Spiritual Center of Peace. This is an important event, and your presence - your Presence- is vitally important. More details will follow in our next couple of newsletters. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending.

SUE RILEY AND SLOAN WAINWRIGHT RETURN Oct. 28th!

We had a great time when these two musical artists visited last year, and we're happy to be on their calendar again this year. Sue will be presenting her "musical message" at our Sunday service, and then we'll enjoy a concert after church. Circle the date!

Child care and Sunday School is always available for kids

Our Sunday School teachers look forward to sharing Unity principles with your children aged 4-12. If you've got questions, please speak to our YOU teachers: Cindy Cawthorne, LUT, Barbara Richman, LUT, Judyth Willis, and Sunni Adams. Our nursery is available for the very young ones, as well.
