Greetings!

"This is the day the Lord has made. Let us be glad
and rejoice in it
"   -- Psalm 118:24, NRSV

Our national celebration of Independence Day is fast approaching. Along with the fireworks and barbeques and swim parties is an opportunity for you to examine your own reasons for celebration. And- if it is helpful- to examine those error thoughts that are keeping you in bondage to "less than" thinking.

There is, for each of us, a point along our journey when we realize that "good enough" isn't good enough any more. That compromise is no longer acceptable. In the book we recently studied by Stephen Covey (7 Habits of Highly Effective People), we learned that compromise frequently results in 1 + 1 = 1 ½. When we go for "Win/Win or No Deal" in our lives, we leave space for synergy, and we see (much to our amazement!) that 1 + 1 can actually equal 3... or 17... or 7,985,337! In Spirit-speak, we might call synergy by the name "miracle", "grace", or "the work of the Holy Spirit".

Is there some external situation in your life that you have been allowing to compromise your joy? Perhaps you get up each morning, turn on the news and see how things are going before you decide what your day is going to look like. Perhaps you turn on the computer and check the stock market to see whether or not it is a "good" day. Maybe, with eyes still bleary from sleep, you step on the scale to find out whether or not you are worthy. Maybe you check your email to see how the boss reacted to your latest proposal. There are any number of ways that we allow ourselves to be held in bondage to outer things. What if.....

What if none of that was actually holding you back? What if the only thing keeping you from living the full and joyous life you say you desire was your own power of thought, used in opposition to your own good? What if you ALREADY ARE that which you wish to be- free, wise, loving, powerful, perfect?

The Truth is that you already are That which you claim to desire. If you can perceive of the possibility of freedom, then freedom already lives within you. If you can perceive of peace of mind, then peace of mind already exists within you. And the ONLY thing standing between you and the good you seek is your belief that there is something standing between your and your good.

As we approach this coming Independence Day, I invite you to look at your calendar and claim the gift of an hour or two (or more). The sooner the better. Turn off your phone, television, computer, or any other device that seems to be attached to you. If you share a home, ask for this time of solitude to be respected by the others. If need be, allow your animal companions to live on the other side of the closed door for just this small span of time. If you wish, have paper and pen nearby. Sit quietly, with eyes closed, and breathe for a few minutes. Yes, that's right, just breathe. Nothing magical or mysterious about that. Simply breathe. Allow yourself to focus on your heart, breathing fully and completely. No need to artificially change your breath, just enjoy the experience of breathing. This is the way we intentionally enter sacred space, which is the holy ground upon which you exist.

Allow that thing that you have allowed to hold you in bondage to come to mind. What is the Truth about this situation or circumstance? I guarantee you that somewhere, there is a disconnect between your thought process and Truth. The bathroom scale does not measure Sacred Worth. The stock market does not reflect your Divine Value. Your medicine cabinet does not contain Wholeness. A broken marriage does not mean you are broken. A diagnosis- even a really, really unwanted one- does not have the power to destroy you. What is the Truth that you wish to see demonstrated? What would Life lived from that Truth look like? What would it feel like? Continue to breathe, and use your powers of Imagination, Faith, Love and Life to bring your thinking into alignment with the Truth that you wish to Live. You are the only one who decides the meaning of Truth in your life. You are the only one who gets to choose how the circumstances of your life affect you. Use your powers of Wisdom and Understanding to choose wisely.

You are a unique, necessary, and unrepeatable expression of Divinity. The Christ you are is infinitely stronger and more powerful than ANY external circumstance. It is up to you to claim your Power and use your Strength. It is up to you to choose, using your power of Will, to make this your Independence Day. This is the day the Lord - your Christ consciousness - has made. Be glad and rejoice in it!
