Greetings!

A long time ago, during what seems like another lifetime, I learned a tiny little bit of computer programming. One programming routine that I've always remembered is if - then - else. In geek-speak, this logically defines a set of actions: if one specified action or result occurs, then this other thing will happen. If the originally specified result doesn't happen, then another outcome results. Very simple. If I slam my bare toe into a boulder, pain results. If I do not do that, I continue happily on my way. Logical and easy to understand. Of course, life is not a programmed routine of commands. I never really put my knowledge of computer programming to any use, yet somehow this has stuck with me through the years as a very simple and logical way to explain the effect of choice in our lives and how, without realizing it, we may be sabotaging our own good intentions.

Do you ever hear yourself using the phrase, "If only..."? "If only there weren't so many idiot drivers on the road..." "If only the politicians ..." "If only my husband wouldn't ..." "If only my teenager would learn some respect..." "If only my boss would..." "If only the stock market..." We've all used language like this.

If only... someone or something outside of you...would do something that you want them to do, or not do something you don't want them to do... then life would be perfect. But they won't, so it isn't. And there's nothing you can do about it, right? Because you can't change other people, can you? After all, you can't force them to do what you want them to do. That's just the way it is. Who could possibly expect you to live up to your magnificence when no one else will do what they are supposed to do?

This is the language of victimhood, pure and simple. You may not like to hear it put that way (especially if your "if only..." is a righteous one!), but it is. Life is choices and we all make the choice whether or not to walk the path of victimhood. Notice what I just said: if you are living in victimhood, you have made the choice to be a victim. Obviously you didn't sit down one day and say, "I think I'll choose to live in victimhood", yet one choice at a time, one thought at a time, throughout your lifetime, or maybe many lifetimes, you have given away your power, your dominion over your own life.

Of course, choosing dominion over victimhood doesn't mean that "bad" stuff will never happen to us. Stuff happens, and sometimes it is horrible stuff. And- even in those moments of seemingly random terrible circumstances, we choose to be victimized or we choose to know Truth. [Please understand this does not mean that we "choose" to have terrible things happen to us: one of the very least useful things about metaphysical study is the tendency to blame ourselves or others when things seem to go wrong. The specific circumstances of our lives are probably fairly neutral- it's what we make of them that creates our experience]

You may have set some intentions at the beginning of the new year- most of us do. We like the idea of a clean slate, a new beginning to start fresh. By now, you may be starting to question your ability to maintain those intentions. Listen to your own internal dialogue for the sometimes-subtle language of victimhood. When you notice yourself saying you'd do something, if only..., or that you'd stop doing something, if only... take a step back. Be thankful for this moment of clarity, and then rephrase and acknowledge Truth...

In this moment, I choose to claim my power. I am thankful for this moment of awareness. I choose to pause and consider my options. Even if I choose what may seem like the lesser of these options, this is my choice and I am not a victim of circumstances. My choice may not make sense to anyone else, it may not even really make sense to me, but it is my choice. I am doing the very best I can do in this moment, and I choose to honor myself for that. I release the choice to live in victimhood. At the time I made that choice, that was the very best I could do, and in this moment, I can choose again. I release others from blame, and I release myself from blame, I release myself from regret. I am powerful, wise, loving free Spirit. I choose well. event

Sacred Abundance Sunday - January 15

Rev. Robin Reiter There are many practices that can lead us to experience all of the Goodness, all of the God-ness, that is our birthright. Rev. Robin Reiter will be visiting us on January 15th to lead us into a 7-week exploration of Sacred Abundance. Following Sunday service, she'll facilitate a workshop that will entertain, inspire and motivate. If you'd like to get a sneak preview of Sacred Abundance, tune in to Rev. Robin's program on UnityFM Online radio. For more information, download the flyer.

But wait... there's more!
After our weekend with Rev. Robin, those who really wish to transform their relationship with abundance may wish to attend weekly classes. Classes start next week and continue for 7 weeks. Sessions are planned for Tuesdays, 2-4pm, Wednesdays 10:30 - 12:30pm, Wednesdays 6:30 - 8:30pm, and Saturdays, 10:00am - 12:00noon. IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND A SEVEN-WEEK CLASS AND CANNOT ATTEND ANY OF THESE, PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL AND LET US KNOW WHAT WILL WORK BETTER FOR YOU.

Unity Institute SEE Classes  Besides the Sacred Abundance classes, Nita will facilitate two SEE (Spiritual Enrichment and Education) classes, starting on Wednesday, Jan. 25 through Feb. 22nd:

Metaphysics (II pt.1 - no prerequisite) will be offered from 1:30 - 3:20
Bible Interpretation: Hebrew Scriptures will be offered from 3:40 - 5:30

These are both required classes for those seeking credentialing as Unity Leaders (teachers or ministers). 100% attendance is required for credit students. Non-credit students are welcome to attend as they wish. All SEE classes at Unity Church of Peace are offered on a love offering basis, credit will require a $36.00 registration fee. Reply for information about textbooks.

New Member Orientation Sessions
If you've been attending for awhile, and feel aligned with our community, please plan on attending one of our new member orientation sessions. We'll be accepting new members on Feb. 26th, which is the date of our annual membership meeting. Session will be held after church on Jan. 22nd, Jan. 29th, and Feb. 19th, and last about an hour. If you attended our Sunday lesson series focusing on living the Unity principles, you do not need to attend the whole session, you simply need to attend the first part, which will be a short video explaining a bit about Unity's history and governing body. Pick up a membership application at church, and either place it in the offering or give it to Nita or any Board member.

Besides the Sacred Abundance and SEE classes, and new member orientations, singer/songwriter Teri Wilder will be coming for a visit on Feb. 5th and we'll be having our annual business meeting. Download the complete listing, and you'll see everything in one easy listing.

Gosh, we've got a lot going on in the next couple of months! Besides the events we've got coming up, we've been doing some behind-the-scenes work as well. We've recently upgraded the streaming audio on our website, so the page loads much faster. Our new media player allows you to either listen online or download mp3s to play later. You may open the player in a separate window on your desktop, so that you can continue to browse online while you listen. We haven't yet transferred all of our audio archives to the new player, but we do have the past two or three months available.

Blessings to each of you,
Nita services
