Greetings!

"When one is in a mixed state of consciousness there is always dissension and questioning. However when one is born anew into the Christ consciousness all things are made clear."

Chas. Fillmore, Mysteries of John

It's nearly a new year: is that an exciting thought to you? Was 2011 all that you hoped it would be, or are you glad to see it moving into your rear view mirror?

We can easily move into that "mixed state of consciousness" if we allow ourselves to dwell on what might have been. Last week, we celebrated not only the birth of Jesus, but the birth of our awareness of the Christ consciousness that lives in each one of us. Many of us came together for a candlelight celebration on Christmas Eve and enjoyed a few moments to make a birthday wish upon the candles that represented our awareness of that Christ within. Whether you were present or not, what is your wish for the new year?

I invite you to invest a few moments (or more!) in contemplation of that question. Don't look at this like the usual making of New Year's resolutions, which are notoriously difficult to maintain. Study after study shows that nearly all New Year's resolutions are completely given up by the end of February, any most don't last till the end of January. That doesn't mean that we can't change our lives; we can! The reason that I am so passionate about teaching these principles is because I know that we can indeed transform our lives. I know we can, because I have done it, and so have many of the people who sit next to you in church each Sunday.

As Fillmore tells us, a mixed state of consciousness leaves us questioning and arguing with ourselves. 'What should I do? How do I do it? Wait- I can't do THAT! What will people think? My family will think I'm nuts! I'm busy- I don't have time to meditate. Yeah, yeah, I used to do affirmations, and things seemed better for awhile, but I still can't get along with my teenager and the bills are still piling up. What's the use?'

Fillmore then tells us that as we allow ourselves to move into a state of Christ consciousness, things will be made clear. How, exactly, do we make that move? One thought at a time. It's beautifully simple, and... simple does not necessarily mean easy!

So often, when we think about change, we simply begin focusing on all of the things that we think are wrong with our lives. We focus on the things we don't want, the things we didn't do, the things that others didn't do, or the things that they did that we wish they hadn't done. We create an inventory of shortcomings, our own as well as the others in our lives. What happens when we focus on something? We get more of it. As we focus on lack, limitation, failure, and the other items in our inventories of shortcoming, we are actually doing the work of getting more of what we DON'T want! We are living again in that mixed state of consciousness.

Become still, and be receptive to moving into your Christ consciousness. By seeking first the kingdom of God, by turning our thoughts toward the indwelling Christ, we are doing the one thing that actually does lead to transformation. When you wake up each morning, focus on your heart area, and think of something or someone that represents Good in your life. Remember that your True nature is Divine. Remember Oneness. Before you get out of bed, claim wisdom and understanding in each of your actions. When you have a choice to make, allow yourself to pause, become still, and claim Divine guidance. It may seem awkward at first, but your sincere desire coupled with your willing heart will overcome all of the arguments that your sense-consciousness may put forth. Whatever your heart's wish is for 2012, the way to achieve it is the same: seek first the kingdom of God. Become still. Listen. Be willing.event
