Greetings!

"It is your mission to express all that you can imagine God to be. Let this be your standard of achievement; never lower it, nor allow yourself to be belittled by the cry of sacrilege. You can attain to everything you can imagine. If you can imagine that it is possible to God, it is also possible to you."

-- Unity Co-founder Charles Fillmore

This month, our Sunday lessons are focusing on our fifth Unity principle: it is not enough to know and understand the principles of life. We must actually LIVE the Truth that we know. As I mentioned in my last email to you, Unity does not have any strict dogmatic beliefs. Most Unity people will agree (more or less!) with the following principles:

  • There is One Power, God, Absolute Good without opposite.
  • Humans have a spark of Divinity within them and are also inherently Good.
  • We create our experiences by the activity of our thinking.
  • Prayer and meditation are the tools that heighten our connection with God-mind.
  • Knowing these laws are not enough- we must actually live the Truth that we know.

As we look at this list, our focus at this moment is, "How can I use these principles to fulfill that mission, to express all that I can imagine God to be?" This sounds like an audacious goal, and it is. It is also possible!

We express God - Truth - Beingness - Wholeness - Spirit - Whatever Name You Prefer, by remaining present to our lives and being willing to take one step after another in the direction of fulfilling that mission. I believe absolutely that what Fillmore says is true: we really CAN express all that we imagine God to be. Will we wake up tomorrow in full Christ-like manifestation? Probably not. Can we move closer each day? Absolutely.

Let's get back to the "how" of fulfilling this life mission. As you read through the five principles, remember that these are not some special Unity-only secret list. These Truths apply whether you "believe" in them or not. They apply in our lives whether we use them from awareness or not. If you do not already have a copy of these principles, use the copy/paste function on your computer to make a copy and carry it around with you for a week or two. Post them on your bathroom mirror. Put a copy in a frame on your desk. Place a copy on your refrigerator. Write them on a sticky-note on your computer monitor. Allow them to begin to reside at the front of your awareness.

Next, I am absolutely convinced that the single most productive act you can take on any given day is to invest 15 or 20 minutes in Silence. Simply sit and focus on your breath, breathing in and breathing out. Breathe again. And again. Some find it useful to repeat a sacred word or phrase. If you realize you're writing up a laundry list of to-do items, stop doing that and simply focus on your breath or sacred word once again. As you practice consistently, you'll focus more and your mind will wander less. Just commit to sit for those 15 minutes, knowing that each day is one more step in the direction of the full expression of your Godliness.

Memorize the following words: "Nevertheless, I Am Willing". The next time that you find yourself in a difficult situation, especially if you realize that the "easy" path does NOT lead in the direction of your Godliness, stop, allow yourself a deep breath, and remind yourself that you are willing to take the one next step that you know DOES lead in the direction of your mission. Being willing to take that one step will make it easier to take the following step. Sometimes we know what the optimal step is and we just don't want to do it. If that's your choice, acknowledge it and don't beat yourself up. Eventually, we will all make that journey to the full expression of our divinity. Its not a race. But be aware: at some point you do have to walk your talk. If you're interested in exploring more about the "how" of willingness, read "Mastering Life's Energies" by Maria Nemeth.

The last day-to-day action (for now!) is to learn to remember to ask yourself the following question throughout the day, whenever you think of it: "What would a person who was committed to fully expressing all that they can imagine God to be do in this moment?" When you know the answer to that question, take that step. And if you find yourself resisting, speak these words to yourself: Nevertheless, I Am Willing.

CLAIM YOUR GOOD IN THE NEW YEAR

Unity minister Rev. Robin Reiter will be joining us on January 15, 2012 to kick off our seven-week program of Sacred Abundance. We live in a society where the belief in scarcity has created the experiences of competition, poverty and lack. How do we walk the walk and experience vibrant health, profound love, limitless wealth and overflowing joy in the midst of a world consciousness of lack and separation?

Sacred Abundance will look at how to apply essential spiritual principles in the REAL world. It is our sacred and joyous responsibility to wake up from the illusions created by error thinking and live truly abundant lives. More details about this program will be coming, but in the meantime, you can jump start your abundant life by listening to Rev. Robin on Unity Online Radio

Nita Strauss

We are all traveling the spiritual path together, and as each one of us is willing to do the work in consciousness to more fully express the Christ within, we lift up everyone else. The good that you do ripples outward and improves in some way the lives of all those others on the Path. Living the spiritual life is not the easiest choice to make, but it is the most rewarding choice. Thank you for making the choice to LIVE the Truth that you know.

Blessings...Nita
