We are midway through our Lenten journey of 2011. Have you noticed any Sprit-movement in your life? I have. And, I've heard from some of you that you have, as well. When we invite a fuller expression of God-Awareness into our lives, we can always be assured that change WILL occur. Sometimes it looks like what we would choose, sometimes it looks so very much NOT like what we would have chosen that we do not recognize It.

As we begin the next portion of our Lenten practice, I invite you to claim your intention and willingness to do this work. Just for today, invest time in Spirit. Then claim the same intention and willingness tomorrow. And the day after that, and the day after that. Next thing you know, you'll have established a spiritual practice that works for YOU!

Perfectly perfect in every way...

"The question is frequently asked, "Why, if God is perfect and man is His likeness and image, should there be imperfection in man?" The answer is that there is no imperfection in man. He is perfect potentiality proving itself. In the course of bringing forth this perfection, there are processes he must go through. Life and intelligence are factors entering into this process... and they seem to fall short... in certain stages of the work. This, the limited consciousness, looks on and pronounces it failure."                             Charles Fillmore, Keep a True Lent

Fillmore goes on to explain that if a child makes an arithmetic error, it does not mean that she is a failure. It is simply part of the process of learning, the correction is made, and the child now understands more than she did before making the error. When we see a toddler learning to walk, they fall down frequently. We do not term them "failures" at walking: we know that falling down is part of the process of learning to walk, and we celebrate each and every attempt. So - why do we term it failure when we (or one of our fellow explorers) acts in a less-than-Christlike manner?

Of course we will falter on our way to fully expressing our Christhood. Of course we will react from our human personalities as we are learning to respond with the Love that is Truth. Of course we will act in ways that are "less than". We are spiritual beings, AND we are having the very human experience of forgetting that Truth. We are having the human experiences that allow us to learn and grow and exercise our free will in ways that may seem counter-productive, yet add great value to our learning process.

Of course we will disappoint ourselves and others. Of course we will react in anger and frustration. Of course we will have moments of darkness and forgetting. It is part of the process that allows us to learn and to choose. Emilie Cady (Lessons in Truth) reminds us that we are not automatons. Robots and computers may (or may not...) do things perfectly. As we learn to look at our imperfect actions as the absolutely perfect opportunities for learning how to express our full and amazing Divine potential, we will truly learn to love ourselves. And, of course, it is only as we learn to love ourselves that we can learn to truly love our neighbors.

Each time you forgive yourself, you increase the capacity for forgiveness that will ultimately bring about the "Peace on Earth, Good Will to All" that is the promise of the birth of the awareness of the Christ within each of us. Our work is to allow the apparent imperfection of the human journey to be fully acknowledged, experienced, forgiven and released. As we do that work, we are following our Elder Brother and Way-shower, Jesus, in the way of demonstrating our full, Divine potential.

Creative Journey Resumes!

At last "Creative Journey" group is back!  Our first offering for creative group fun will be taking place at the church on two consecutive Saturdays, April 9th and 16th from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM.  We will be exploring a concept called "Painting for Peace" through the use of meditation, acrylic inks and watercolor paper.  Jeanne Fellow will be our teacher as we let Spirit be our guide using the magic of paper and ink.  No art experience is required, just bring your heart and get ready to "Let go and let God".  The results we have seen are beautiful and soulful.  Cost is $30 per person with a love offering taken for the instructor at the end of the classes.  All materials needed will be supplied as part of the cost of the workshop. Due to planning needs for materials, please sign up by Sunday, April 3rd.  See Barb McLawhorn or Mo Garrison to sign up.  It's going to be great fun!
