Greetings!
These few words are lyrics to a song by our good friend, Teri Wilder, who will be driving in from her home in New Mexico to join us this weekend. In very simple and eloquent words, these lyrics tell us absolutely everything we need to know about living abundantly. And living abundantly means so very much more than just having enough money or enough stuff.
I allow... Spirit does not force Goodness upon us. We have free will, which means that we are the ones who get to decide what the circumstances of our lives mean and what our experience of Life is. We either allow ourselves to live in awareness of Good or we don't. We either allow ourselves to enjoy this abundant universe or we don't. We get to choose our thoughts, and we either allow ourselves to enjoy living in awareness of the Oneness that we are or we don't. By "allowing" we get out of our own way. We stop "putting boulders in our own path", as one friend of mine worded it the other day.
I receive... Once we have made the choice to allow Good into our lives, we begin to receive. We are told that as we give, so we will receive. By allowing, we have given Life permission to include us in the abundant flow that is Oneness, and we begin to see the endless gifts available to us.
I accept... Another offshoot of free will is that, just because something is offered to us, there is no obligation for us to actually accept it. You've probably watched shows like "Clean House" or "Enough Already" and seen what happens when folks simply accept everything that comes their way. A cousin didn't need that old TV set, so they took it. A friend was throwing out some "perfectly good" dishes so they decided to rescue them. Ultimately, they find themselves buried under a mountain of stuff, unable to function.
Even more important, free will means that we get to choose which thoughts and ideas we accept. Just because someone tells us that "peace on earth is an impossible dream" does not mean we have to accept that thought. As compassionate and aware spiritual beings, we have the right to reject those thoughts that do not serve us. As compassionate and aware spiritual beings it is actually our obligation to choose carefully which thoughts we accept, because the choices we make affect the Wholeness of which we are a part. We begin living with much more clarity and intention when we choose carefully what to accept into our lives.
I believe that I have all I need... We are told by our master teacher, Jesus, "...whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (Mk 11:24, NRSV) Having experienced this process of allowing, receiving, and accepting, we now know that indeed, we need never know lack. We need never again experience want. We need never again worry about how we will be fed or clothed or any of that, because we can rest now in believing that we have all we need.
Now, we can also pray, believing, "... that I AM all I need now".
