Greetings!

We're All In This Together
Band Together for Lupus Awareness™ this May

The Scleroderma Foundation has teamed up to help the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) raise awareness and support for those that suffer from this unpredictable and sometimes fatal disease.

Often times, people with scleroderma can have other overlapping autoimmune diseases, such as lupus. Lupus affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans, in fact research has shown that most Americans, 59 percent, know little or nothing about the disease.

This year, the LFA is asking the public to "Put On Purple" for lupus awareness by wearing purple, and telling people why they are showing their support for all people affected by this disease. Put On Purple Day takes place Friday, May 18. There are many other ways you can raise awareness during Lupus Awareness Month including social media, online, and grassroots components and tools so everyone can get involved and educate their communities.

The public can learn more about lupus and ways they can get involved in improving awareness of lupus this May by visiting the LFA's website at www.lupus.org. Free tools are available to download at www.lupus.org/awarenesskit.

Let's all band together to help raise more awareness for lupus and other autoimmune diseases.

Got GERD? You May Need More Saliva

Did you know that digestive problems, like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), could be caused by not having enough saliva?

Without saliva, food wouldn't taste as good, tooth decay would increase and digestion could be more difficult. In this article, Dr. Michael Brennan, of the Sjogren's Syndrome and Salivary Disorders Center at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C., offers insight into the full benefits of saliva.
