Greetings!

Thanksgiving. At this very special time of year, we want to pause in the midst of our often hectic lives and remember the many people who work to advance the mission of the Scleroderma Foundation.  The scleroderma community and the work of the Foundation has advanced this year thanks to the efforts of many - patients, donors, corporate sponsors, advocates, chapter leaders, medical professionals, researchers, support group leaders, caregivers, volunteers and staff members.

Whatever role you play within this dynamic community, your efforts help to ease the burden of those living with this terrible disease.  More importantly, your support helps us travel down the road toward better treatments and the hope of a cure.

As always, but especially at Thanksgiving, it's my honor to extend to each of you my sincerest gratitude for your support of the Scleroderma Foundation and of those people living with the disease. On behalf of the National Board of Directors and staff, I want to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. May your lives be filled with happiness, joy and a spirit of hope.

Gratefully yours,

Robert J. Riggs

Chief Executive Officer

Please note: The National Office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, to observe the Thanksgiving holiday.

Don't Be Fooled by Health Care Scams

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has created a new Internet resource to help consumers recognize and protect themselves from the 21st century scams and fraudulent or bogus health products.

FDA's Health Fraud Scams website pulls together videos and articles on how to avoid fraudulent schemes, and offers information about products that have been seized, recalled or are the subject of warnings from the agency.

VIDEO: Children and Scleroderma
Did you know children can get scleroderma, too? Many do not realize that this is not a disease exclusive to adults. Thomas Lehman, M.D., Chief of Pediatric Rheumatology at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, explains the signs and symptoms of scleroderma. He also discusses when you should seek the help of a pediatric rheumatologist.
