New Support Groups in Hawaii and Iowa
The Scleroderma Foundation is proud to announce two new support groups in Hawaii and Iowa.
The Hawaii Support Group is forming under the direction of Kenneth Athans. To find out more or to join, call Ken at (904) 891-3085 or email HawaiiSclerodermaNetwork@gmail.com.
The Central Iowa Support Group led by Barbara Jo Heenan will have its first meeting 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. The meeting will be held in the conference room at Mercy Clinic, 800 E. 1st St, Ankeny, Iowa.
Iowa support group meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every other month - meeting in January, March, May, July, September and November. The second meeting will be held Nov. 8 at the same time and location. For more information, contact Barbara at DesMoinesIASSG@aol.com.

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) created the Talking Glossary of Genetic Terms to help everyone understand the terms and concepts used in genetic research. In addition to definitions, specialists in the field of genetics share their descriptions of terms, and many terms include images, animation and links to related terms.

Study Says Sjogren Syndrome Affects Emotional Well-being

Patients with Sjogren Syndrome, a systemic immune disease which affects the production of tears and saliva, reported worse mental well-being and more difficulty in identifying feelings than the healthy population, according to results presented at the EULAR 2011 Annual Congress held in May. Twenty-two percent of patients in the study had difficulty expressing or describing emotions.
