Conference scholarships are intended for those who would be unable to attend without outside financial assistance. The application deadline for interested candidates is Friday, April 22. Presentation on Pulmonary Hypertension in Systemic Sclerosis 

Dr. Virginia Steen, a Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University specializing in rheumatology, and a member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association's (PHA) Scientific Leadership Council, presents a talk entitled "Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) in Systemic Sclerosis."

This course aims to help medical professionals identify the scleroderma patients at a high risk of developing PH, identify the different types of PH that affect scleroderma patients and to understand the PH medications, thier various side effects and when to make changes in the treatment of PH in scleroderma.

Patients Embrace Virtual Doctor Visits

American Medical News logoA New York-based consumer health and wellness firm conducted an Internet survey of 1,000 adults in mid-November 2010, and found that nearly half are receptive to virtual visits to save time and money, and 78 percent would be willing to give it a shot. Twenty-three percent said they would never consider a remote visit with a doctor.

Splitting Pills May Have Risks

WebMD LogoPill splitting, a common practice among many people who are looking to cut medication costs or dosages, is risky business, according to a study in the January issue of the Journal of Advanced Nursing.

 

Some pills can't be split 50-50 and there can be a narrow margin between a dose that can help you and one that can hurt you, the researchers report.
