U.S. Department of Defense awards three
scleroderma research awards
 Earlier this week, the Department of Defense announced the awardees for the Peer-Reviewed Medical Research Program. Three scleroderma researchers have been awarded funds.
The investigators are Michael Whitfield, Dartmouth College; Elizabeth Blankenhorn, Drexel University; and Stanley Hoffman, Medical College of South Carolina.
The final funding amounts have not yet been announced. However, in general, investigators receive approximately $750,000 over a three-year period.

According to a 2008 report from the National Arthritis Data Workgroup, about 294,000 children are affected with arthritis or other rheumatic conditions. The following is a representative sample of the studies NIAMS is currently funding for pediatric rheumatology.
