Scleroderma Foundation eLetter
eLetter #378

Greetings!

REMINDER!  WE NEED YOU TO HELP PASS THE "SCLERODERMA RESEARCH AND AWARENESS ACT" IN THE SENATE!

On September 30th, the House of Representatives passed the Scleroderma Research and Awareness Act (H.R. 2408) by a unanimous voice-vote before adjourning for the November elections.  This was a historic milestone for the scleroderma community!

Now the U.S. Senate must pass this important legislation in order for it to become law.

Senators will spend the next two-to-three weeks in Washington finishing-up the "Lame Duck" session of the outgoing 111th Congress. This is our final opportunity to advocate for this much-needed legislation.    We encourage all Scleroderma Foundation members to contact your senators (2 from each state) and ask them to pass H.R. 2408 before the end of the year!

Please visit our Web site on how to reach and communicate congressional offices.

Thank you for your advocacy in support of this important legislation! Please encourage all of your family members and friends to join with you in support of the Scleroderma Research and Awareness Act.

If you have any questions, please contact the Scleroderma Foundation at 800-722-HOPE.

In the News:  Calcium and Vitamin D

Recently, a report from the Institute of Medicine, which was partially sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, set new dietary intake levels for calcium and vitamin D to maintain health and avoid risks associated with excess. The recommendations take into account published studies and statements from scientists and stakeholders.
