eLetter #371

Greetings!

The Scleroderma Foundation National Patient Education Conference, held annually, is designed to educate, inform, improve the lives of scleroderma patients and their families, and to inspire all those who attend.  Providing a forum to share information and personal experiences makes the Conference a unique opportunity.  "It gives individuals living with scleroderma and their families a chance to reach out to others facing the same challenges, concerns, and triumphs," shares Joseph P. Camerino, Ph.D., Scleroderma Foundation Board Chair.

So Save The Date!  Spread the News!

The 2011 Scleroderma Foundation National Patient Education Conference will be held July 22-24, in San Francisco, California.  Stay tuned to www.scleroderma.org for more details soon!
Understanding Autoimmune Diseases

NIAMS LogoWhen an intruder invades your body - like a cold virus or bacteria on a thorn that pricks your skin - your immune system protects you. It tries to identify, kill, and eliminate the invaders that might hurt you. But sometimes problems with your immune system cause it to mistake your body's own healthy cells as invaders and then repeatedly attack them. This is called an autoimmune disease. (Autoimmune means immunity against the self.)

The mission of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), a part of the Department of Health and Human Services' National Institutes of Health (NIH), is to support research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases; the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research; and the dissemination of information on research progress in these diseases.
