Greetings!
We have two very special events coming up that we would love for you to participate in. The first is the third annual Pluralism Sunday. Join TCPC and churches around the world on May 3, 2009, as we celebrate religious diversity and the benefits of an interfaith world.
Progressive Christians don't
claim that our religion is superior to all others and we give thanks for the wisdom found in other paths. We recognize that
other religions can be as good for others as ours is for us. We can
grow closer to God and deeper in compassion and we can understand our
own traditions better through a more intimate awareness of the world's
religions. Your congregation can celebrate this event however it best fits your needs. You can also celebrate on another day. SIGN UP your congregation to be listed as a participating church this year - by emailing Rev. Jim Burklo, Pluralism Sunday Coordinator for The Center for Progressive Christianity. The second event is the Live Ashana Concert- Heart to Heart. Over the last few years we have often featured Ashana as one of our favorite musicians- her music is deeply moving and spiritual. This concert will be held at the Fox Island UCC church. We are so excited about this incredible opportunity to see Ashana live, we can assure you it is worth the drive, not only for the music but also the glorious scenery of Fox Island. As you drive over the small bridge to Fox Island, both Mount Rainier
and the Olympic Mountain ranges are usually visible and the small
island is covered with towering trees. Please see the details below. We hope to see you there!
The entire staff, board and staff want to wish each and
every one a wonder-full Easter. May you experience in your own way, resurrected
life-with death to your entrapments and birth to new awareness. Unlike the disciples in the Garden, let us
wake up from our sleep and discover who we are, part of the Creator, created
from Love. And then we can sing with joy, Alleluia!
Sincerely,
Fred Plumer

Pluralism Sunday
May 3, 2009
How you celebrate religious pluralism is up to you! In the past two years, we have had received incredible feedback from congregations celebrating Pluralism Sunday. Churches will be using elements of other world faiths in
their sermons, litanies, and music; many will feature speakers and
singers from other faith traditions. Some congregations will have
exchanges with other faith communities, going to each other's houses of
worship. The following are resources for planning this special event:Where & When

Sponsored by TCPC, Hosted by Fox Island UCC
Heart-to-Heart Tour - celebrating the Love You Are. Joyful, uplifting, breathtakingly beautiful music featuring the soaring angelic vocals of Ashana and the luminous sounds of crystal singing bowls. Join Ashana for an evening of celestial sound featuring sacred song, chant and mantra - music that will open your heart, lift your spirit, and carry you on waves of love into the arms of the Divine. Ashana's music is a luminous tapestry of soaring angelic vocals, haunting melodies and the healing sounds of crystal singing bowls. This stunningly beautiful alchemy is magical. It quiets the mind, returning you to a place of deep stillness and remembrance of the Divine ... a place where you will be inspired and uplifted ... a place of comfort and peace. The Center for Progressive Christianity provides guiding ideas,
networking opportunities, and resources for progressive churches,
organizations, individuals and others with connections to Christianity. We
promote an understanding of Christian practice and teaching that leads
to a greater concern for the way people treat each other than for the
way people express their beliefs, the acceptance of all people, and a
respect for other religious traditions. We affirm the variety
and depth of human experience and the richness of each persons' search
for meaning, and we encourage the use of sound scholarship, critical
inquiry, and all intellectual powers to understand the presence of God
in human life. We are opposed to any exclusive dogma that limits
the search for truth and free inquiry, and we encourage work that eases
the pain, suffering and degradation inherent in many of the structures
of society, as well as work that keeps central to the Christian life
fair, open, peaceful, and loving treatment of all human beings. www.tcpc.org
