SWEATER SMARTS

Header

During cold weather, professionals looking for warmth without wearing their jacket all day can turn to sweaters to help take the chill off-but how to choose a work-worthy one? Find sweaters that enhance the personalized style you've developed with your other tailored clothing by keeping these three points in mind, and you can't go wrong.

Fibers: Fine-gauge sweaters transition to work better than those with thicker weaves. Choose natural fibers such as cotton, wool, or cashmere for breathability and comfort.

Colors: Your sweaters should be part of the same mix-and-match color family as the rest of your work wardrobe. Calmer solid colors are generally dressier than busy prints or stripes.

Patterns: Just as in woven fabrics, the type of stitches used in your knit sweaters offer a multitude of textures and patterns. Depending on your work environment, try cable knit, ribbed knit, or flat knit sweaters.

Pairing a dressy sweater with your tailored shirts and trousers gives you warm options throughout the winter months-and keeps you looking your best in any weather.

A POINT FOR PLEATS

Vest

For several years, men's trouser trends have emphasized slim shaping, flat fronts, and high hems. But pleats are starting to make a comeback in menswear. Here's why:

Trouser pleats add bulk, which creates a sense of balance for tall gentlemen and weight for slender ones. For heavier gentlemen, properly cut trouser pleats eliminate pulling and buckling across the abdomen, hiding bulk and smoothing out proportions.

The next time you're being measured for a suit, let's talk about whether pleated or flat-front trousers would work better for your frame. Properly tailored clothing not only looks great on you, but makes you look great, too.
