LIGHTEN UP THIS SPRING

Lighter fabric weights and traditional color palettes take on a lighter presence this spring and summer. Traditional men's wear tones of grays, taupes, tans and olive greens, offset with blues, steal the spotlight.

Patterns, in checks, plaids, bird's eye and herringbone, bring a striking appearance to counterbalance the lighter weights of the season. Stripes, in a plethora of accent colors take on less of a demarcation and more of a shadowy silhouette for a sophisticated look of elegance.

Sober patterns with playful color and very light fabrics contribute to a lighter fashion atmosphere in luxurious cloth. Even the simplest fabrics and patterns are making an elegant statement this season.

Q & A

Question
I see it all in my office. One guy ties his tie so short it comes to about mid chest, and another guy's tie hangs far below the waist. How long should a necktie be when tied?

Answer
Most standard neckties come in lengths anywhere from 52 to 57 inches. Better made ties tend to be a bit more generous and extend the lengths to 58 or 59 inches. Taller men or those who tie a Windsor or bulky knot may require a longer tie. When tied, the point or tip of the tie should just touch the bottom of the belt buckle or bottom of the trouser waistband. Any more appears sloppily long, any less appears carelessly short. The wide end of the tie should always be equal to or longer in length than the narrow end.
