Help us deliver 1,000 hand-written letters to Mayor Ravenstahl

letter
Help get more bike lanes! Hand-write a letter to be hand-delivered to the Mayor!

In 2010, the City of Pittsburgh installed about 5 miles of bike lanes and sharrows, mostly in East End neighborhoods.  These lanes were a welcome addition to the emerging city-wide bike lane network, and showed that the City was serious when, upon receiving the "Bronze Bike-friendly Community" status, Mayor Ravenstahl proclaimed that there will be "25 miles of new bike lanes and sharrows in two years."

We want to make sure this momentum continues, so we decided that we'd deliver to him a bunch of "Thank You" notes to demonstrate how much support Mayor Ravenstahl has for his bike initiative, and how bike lanes have positively impacted the lives of thousands of Pittsburghers.

We're looking for fun, creative responses on our kinda boring form letter on how more bike lanes will change your life.  The idea is that hand-written letters are more effective than emails, form letters, and post cards, so write-away!

Here's the deal:

1. Print out the form letter to the mayor

2. Tell the Mayor how more bike lanes will improve your life. Use a colorful marker if you want. Draw a picture. Be creative or clever, or don't be!

3. Return it to us at BikePGH by June 1, 2011

It's that simple.

Federal Transportation Funding Watch

america bikes bannerBe on the lookout for an Action Alert email any day.
Our Coalition is pushing for a "Tidal Wave" of emails to Federal Legislators

Working with our partners at America Bikes, we have been monitoring and preparing for possible federal budget cuts that attack programs which fund biking and walking infrastructure. This is a "pre-alert" to give you the heads up that if biking and walking funding and programs are attacked, we will have a very short window in which to take action.

If an amendment attacking biking and walking is proposed, we will let you know right away and ask that you contact your U.S. Representative, asking them to protect federal investments in biking and walking. If such action is needed, we will provide specific information and directions.

There is no action to take at this moment - this is just a heads-up that we need everyone to stand-by for action.
