Announcing: The BikePGH Annual Membership Meeting

Wednesday, February 9 at the Grey Box Theatre, Lawrenceville

grey box theaterThe board and staff of Bike Pittsburgh would like to invite our members to attend our Annual Meeting.

Bike Pittsburgh is making real, positive changes in the City of Pittsburgh. So we're hosting a membership meeting to recap last year's successes and engage our members in shaping the future of the organization.

If you're one of our 1,400+ members, you are invested in this community and we want to meet you and hear from you. If we work together we can make a stronger and more lasting impact, not just for ourselves, but also future generations of Pittsburghers. The only requirement to attend is that you are a member in good standing.

Members should keep a look out for an additional email invite.

This is a great chance to meet other Bike Pittsburgh members, neighbors, staff, see what is going on in the world of bike advocacy, and contribute to future efforts.

Who should come: Bike Pittsburgh Members

Filmmaker brings Pittsburgh's initiatives to the world

Clarence Eckerson of Streetfilms recently filmed a short segment about some of the exciting livable streets initiatives happening right here in Pittsburgh.

The seven minute film touches upon the newly renovated Market Square, interviews the fine folks here at BikePGH, PCRG, & PDP, shows off the secure bicycle parking station at the Century Building, and pays a visit to the Over the Bar (OTB) Bicycle Cafe.

Streetfilms, part of the Streetsblog Network, documents livable streets initiatives around the world. These films are a fabulous resource for biking and walking advocates, as it enables us to bring new and creative ideas to Pittsburgh to present to our planners, engineers, community leaders, and elected officials.

City Paper names Bike Share as one of the inventions that could "change Pittsburgh as we know it"

Is a bike share program in Pittsburgh's future?

We hope so.

As the article states, "Bike Pittsburgh executive director Scott Bricker calls bike-shares 'absolutely the coolest thing ever.' In fact, in April, Bricker is bringing Wisconsin-based bike-share system-designer B-Cycle to Pittsburgh, to try selling local officials on the concept."

Bike sharing is a concept that has been sweeping the globe over the past few years.  The current technology makes it really easy for someone to swipe a card and check out a bike in order to make short errands, expand their lunch range, or simply to get some exercise during the day.  Stay tuned to our website and eNewsletter for the latest developments.

Is your bike lane or trail getting plowed?
Call or email the Mayor's 311 line

hot metal winter
Volunteers shoveled the Hot Metal Bridge last winter

There is no doubt the city is doing a better job plowing our streets this year.

They are looking for ways to continually improve their service, but they need to hear from you so that they know what's important to work on.

Whenever you notice snow being plowed into a bike lane, a bike lane or trail not getting plowed, it is ever so important to call 311 or send an email and let them know.  If a city doesn't know about a problem, they won't fix it.

Upcoming Community Meetings on Winter Storm Management

You can also voice your concern in person by attending one of the four of the City's Community Meetings on the Winter Storm Emergency Plan.

At the meetings, department representatives will present the City's new snow operations during a declared snow emergency and indicate how the plan will affect residents. In addition, representatives will be available to take questions.

All meetings will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 19 - Sheraden Senior Center - 720 Sherwood Ave
  • Thursday, Jan. 20 - Northside Senior Center, Allegheny Square
