office window
The window to our office says it all. Thanks for helping us have a great year!

Thank you, Pittsburgh cyclists, for helping us make 2010 a stellar year
2010 was a milestone year for Pittsburgh cyclists.  We helped lay the path for continued bicycle-friendly developments.  We have a lot of projects planned for 2011, including more bike lanes, and your support is integral in making sure these plans are implemented.

Take a quick look at the progress that our members helped us achieve this year:
  • January: Started the year out right by moving to a new office in Lawrenceville
  • March: New bike parking law was passed that require bike parking at new developments
  • April: We release the 3rd Edition of the award-winning Pittsburgh Bike Map
  • May: Launched Car Free Fridays, a six month program that highlighted neighborhood business districts and engaged over 1,100 people
  • May: Pittsburgh awarded as a Bronze Bike Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.
  • June: We hired our 4th staff member to handle our membership program full time
  • August: Celebrated our 6th Annual BikeFest
  • November: City of Pittsburgh installed 5 more miles of bike lanes and sharrows
  • November: Port Authority announced that they will outfit all buses with bike racks by this time next year.
  • December: We're closing in on 1,500 members. If you're reading this and haven't joined yet, please do so and help us keep paving new ground for bikes!

BikePGH Board adopts changes in bylaws

Amendments made at the November 2010 board meeting
Our board of directors recently amended Bike Pittsburgh's bylaws to strengthen the effective functioning of the organization.  When they were first developed and adopted, Bike Pittsburgh was a brand new organization just starting to make its way into the world of bicycle and transportation advocacy in Pittsburgh.  Now, almost a decade later, Bike Pittsburgh has matured into a professional, highly effective organization with a dedicated staff, a diverse Board and a sizable and growing membership base.

After a careful review of the bylaws, the Board decided that they should be updated to better facilitate the continued success and operations of Bike Pittsburgh.  To highlight a few of the revisions, the Board streamlined and clarified the process for Board service, simplified the membership provisions and cleaned up some overly legalistic or confusing language to make the bylaws more readable and user friendly.  The Board adopted these revisions at its November 2010 meeting.

You can review the newly revised bylaws in detail on the MISSION page on our site.
Bike Pittsburgh gratefully acknowledges the Richard King Mellon Foundation, Heinz Endowments, The Sprout Fund, The Benter Foundation, The Alliance for Biking & Walking and our members for their generous support.
