Black and Gold make BRONZE

Pittsburgh's cycling community recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as Bronze in bike-friendliness!

We've come a long way since 1990, when Pittsburgh was ranked by Bicycling Magazine as one of the three worst cities in the country in which to ride a bike.

The League of American Bicyclists, one of the oldest bicycling organizations in the world, bases their awards on their "Five E's," and ranks communities as either Honorable Mention, Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.

Events, maps, education, advocacy, and all of the fun things to do on a bike; whether it's on a road, cycling oval, single track, or riverfront trail, as well as a commitment from the Mayor's office to install bicycle infrastructure led to this momentous award.  Pat yourselves on the back, Pittsburgh cyclists!

Along with this award, the League will give Pittsburgh a "road map" to follow with all the things we need to do to get to the next level and beyond. BikePGH is excited to partner with the City of Pittsburgh to follow this prescription as we continue on our path towards, silver, gold and then platinum.

5th Annual East End Brewing Company Keg Delivery Ride
bikepgh logo
Friday, May 14 at the East End Brewing Company

Every year in May, hundreds of cyclists gather at the East End Brewing Company in Homewood for one of the most fun and most unique cycling events around. To celebrate the yearly birth of Pedal Pale Ale, EEBC's summer brew, the first batch gets delivered by bike.

But, there's a catch.  No one but the keg pullers know where the ride's going, so riders must stay behind the keg in order to arrive at the super-secret tap spot to drink their beer, the first one for free.  And every year the amount of people that shows up doubles, leaving us in 2009 to lead over 500 riders, pied piper style, to the destination.

Please help us keep the lines to a minimum this year by pre-registering for the event.  To give you a bit more of an incentive to do so, pre-registrants will automatically be added to a raffle drawing for some great prizes!
