Council Passes Bike Parking Bill
bikepgh logo
Riding to a shiny new building and having nowhere to park your bike will be a thing of the past
Pittsburgh City Council unanimously passed the Bike Parking Ordinance this week.  The ordinance requires developers to install bike parking at all new and change-in-use buildings, just like they need to do for cars.  Basically, it makes sure that bikes are considered during the planning process, instead of trying to retrofit for them afterward.

BikePGH has been working on this measure with the planning department and the Mayor's Bike/Ped coordinator for over two years.

Thanks to them and to you, our readers, who sent emails and letters to their Council representatives, the ordinance passed easily with a 9-0 vote.

BikePGH Attends the 10th Annual National Bike Summit in DC

LAB's National Bike Summit is an annual event where bike advocates from around the country meet and pack the halls of Congress to educate our elected officials about cycling issues.  This year saw a record attendance, growing from fewer than 100 participants in 2000 to well over 700 in 2010.

The US Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, gave a rousing table top speech where he announced a new federal policy statement regarding bikes that vows to "treat walking and bicycling as equals with other transportation modes," among other great news.
