Make a Year-end Contribution to Bike Pittsburgh
|
|
Only moments left to make a final tax-deductible donation
 Dear eMessenger Reader,
Before 2007 comes to an end, please consider becoming a member or making an additional year-end donation to Bike Pittsburgh. Your contribution will impact the city by helping us continue to improve our streets for bicyclists.
We turned five years old in 2007, and had an astoundingly successful year - bike lanes on Liberty Ave and the Birmingham Bridge, convincing the City to hire a full-time bike/ped coordinator, and publishing the first bike map of Pittsburgh in 15 years to name just a few. None of this would be possible without your support.
There will be many more wins in 2008 that we'll all be able to take pride in - additional bike lanes, shared lane markings, bike route signs, the launch of an online version of our bike map, hosting our seventh Bike to Work Day and our fourth annual BikeFest. Please donate today to help grow the local cycling community, and make 2008 the Year of the Bike!
Have a safe and happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Scott Bricker Executive Director Bike Pittsburgh

Resolution for Bike/Ped Coordinator Passes
|
|
Fantastic news for city cyclists!
On December 12, 2007, City Council
passed Bill
No. 2007-1979. This resolution authorizes the Mayor and the Director of
City Planning to enter into a grant agreement with the Richard King
Mellon Foundation to receive monies to support a Bicycle Pedestrian
Coordinator for a period of two years and further providing for
legitimate expenditures for payments of salary and fringe benefits in
connection with the execution of the grant agreement.
Pittsburgh will join the ranks of elite cities such as Chicago, Portland, Cambridge, San Francisco, and Seattle as the newest city to hire a full-time professional to work solely on bike and pedestrian issues.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to write to and call the
Mayor and their City Councilperson to request this position be funded.
And, thank you to the Richard King Mellon Foundation for working with
Bike Pittsburgh, City Planning, DPW and the Mayor's Office to fund this
incredibly important position! This is a huge step for the City, and we
look forward to working closely with the Bike/Ped Coordinator in the New Year. Weigh in with your opinion on our Message Board or Blog
