In Memorium Walter Droskie
6/1/1941 - 3/1/2009
Goodbye dear friend!
Shortly after I opened the market in 2004, I was working on our cheese display when Walter Droskie came to call. It was a sunny fall day and the shop was empty. We were just getting started in business and every person who came in the door was a cause for celebration, but Walter was particulary special! He had a great smile and took great delight in all of our products! He liked the giftware and the cheeses and our vinegars. There was something about him that made me feel as if he were an old friend! I remember that among the many purchases that he made that day, Walter bought a small pig, it was a pull toy ornament.
We had just started our Dinner at the Market series and Walter immediately signed up. He came to most of our dinners over the years. His family told me that our dinners were his number one favorite activity. It brought him a completely new social life. He made many friends at our communal tables. He brought many new people to the market including his wonderful family!
Walter was a person who made friends wherever he went and in any circumstance, from his team of dedicated doctors and nurses, his dialysis team, our waitstaff and cooks... I could always talk easily to Walter and I felt that he understood me completely.
Many of you met Walter and may not have been aware of his passing, so I wanted to let you know that he died in his sleep last Sunday. My world has become a little smaller since then. Thank you for your time, Nancy |
