Nancy's Cooking Saturday Night!!

nk cooking class Hi, I am back in the snow country planning some great menus for the next few dinners coming up! I was certainly inspired when I was with my friends from Italy, Gioacchino and Marta at the Specialty Food show in San Diego. They had so many great new products with them that I had to try, and they sent me home with gifts to share with you! So, I decided to do an Italian extravaganza this Saturday night at the market!

The Italian products featured will be offered at a special discount to guests at the Saturday night dinner. Take home a taste of Italy!


Dinner at the Market - A Taste of Italy!

San Diego w/ Gioacchino, Marta and Grazia January 26, 2008 7:00pm

We will begin with a special sampling of the new 2007 harvest of extra virgin olive oils from Nancy's friends in Italy, flown in last week as a special gift!

Antipasti
An appetizer plate of Sun Dried Tomato Involtini with Capers and Anchovy, Caponata Siciliana, Sun Dried Zucchini and other surprises!

First Course
Chick Pea Soup with Pasta and Parmagiano Reggiano Glazed with Marta's Olio Novello!!!

Next
Gigli, an artisan pasta from Puglia, made with durum wheat semolina and barley meal by a team of four women and named for the Calla Lily due to its unique its shape. It will be mixed with Tomato Passata by Vizzino, Passione de Sicilia, a little onion, bacon and hot pepper and garnished with Parmagiano Reggiano, Toasted Pine Nuts and Basil.

Intermezzo
Thinly Sliced Fresh Fennel, Celery, Orange Segments and Carrot over Baby Arugula

Then
Boneless, Skinless Breast of Chicken, Seared in Sylvia Cavalli's 2007 Harvest EVOO, Glazed with Sicilian Pistachio Honey and Wild Fennel Fronds, Oven Roasted and served on a Crispy Risotto Cake and garnished with Roasted Lampascioni - (Wild Hyacinth Bulbs!) drizzled with Aceto Balsamico by Villa Manodori and Colonna Granverde - Extra Virgin Olive Oil Pressed with Organic Sicilian Lemons.

Salame di Fichi - Slices of Cozenza Figs, Orange Zest and Rum, Coated in Dark Chocolate
Lemon Granita
Brenda's extraordinary Vanilla Bean Sugar Cookies Topped with Italian Mascarpone, Sicilian Mandarine Marmalata and Pure Dark Chocolate with Cardamon from Dolceria Bonajuto in Modica!!
