Reach Out and Read | |
Promoting early interest in reading
Reach Out and Read is a program put to practice by the PCC. The program has started off on the West Side of Chicago because of the fact that most of it's adult residents have a fifth-grade reading level. The PCC is a network of nine-nonprofit community health centers that give out free books to children during their wellness check-ups. This encourages education, shows children the benefits of reading, and therefore keeps children in school and motivates them to maintain good grades. Last Year the PCC raised $10,130 for books and is hoping for a better turn out for this year.
