The Body's Engine ~ Time for a Tune-up!
Neuroscience Basic and Comprehensive Metabolic
Profiles Testing
Much like the engine in our cars, our Metabolic System governs the chemical and physical changes that take place within the body ,especially the break down of fuel (food) and its transformation into energy. Stress, poor diet, chronic inflammation, infections, diseases, the aging process and the environment can all have an effect on the metabolic system.
These tests assess and identify imbalances in the metabolic system and create a game plan to correct imbalances through proper nutrition, supplementation, exercise and rest under Dr. Cathy's direction. |

Dr. Cathy's Corner
Love Thyself, Love thy Heart
February is the month when we traditionally think about LOVE, Romance, Relationships, etc. I wanted to write an article about the heart from the perspective of how this special organ works for us and connect it with how the heart works from the physical as well as emotional.
For centuries philosophers and scientists alike believed the heart to be the seat of the soul and today there is evidence that its position in the body and how it works through chemical, neurological and emotional stimulation for our physical health is evident.
Presently we are more aware than ever how the mind and the emotions play a primary role in either enhancing or altering our heart's ability to function.
Below you will find some interesting heart facts of how the physical work of the heart and its central location is responsible for the life giving blood pushed through to all arteries, capillaries, and from there to the end organ, joint or individual cells. This information alone is fascinating. I hope you will read and remember what a special organ the heart is.

Exercise Your Heart ~ Exercise Physiologist
Ann Grossman

Exercising your heart muscle means exercising your body. You don't need a gym, just a bit of motivation and a good pair of walking shoes. Aerobic exercise is any activity that raises your breathing and heart rate and it has the most benefits for your heart. Over time, regular aerobic exercise can help decrease your heart rate and blood pressure at rest and improve your breathing. If you're not convinced about the need to develop an exercise program for your life, you can at least try following some of these tips in your everyday routine. Take advantage of any opportunity for exercise. Try some today.
Take the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator at work, school or the mall. Just start with one flight. Soon, you'll be ready for two!
Park your car at the far end of the parking lot. The short walk to and from the store helps your heart.
If you ride a bus or train, get off a stop before your destination. Walk the rest of the way.
If you can, spend a few minutes of your lunch break taking a stroll. It should help you stay awake after lunch!
Think of housework as an extra chance to exercise. Vacuuming briskly can be a real workout!
Mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, and raking leaves are chores that can be done yourself as a chance to exercise.
If you have a dog, think of the dog as an exercise machine with fur. A brisk walk with the dog is good for both of your hearts. Make it a part of your daily routine.
If you have a family, schedule an after-dinner walk. Make it quality family time.
