Vital Link has been awarded $16,750 in contributions from three Orange County businesses.  Edwards Lifesciences donated $5,000 and The Pacific Life Foundation donated $10,000 to fund Vital Link's Career Exploration Programs.  The National Human Resources Association, Orange County Chapter is donating $1,750 toward student workforce preparation resources.  The support of the business community has provided Vital Link the resources it needs to deliver its Career Exploration programs and expand the outreach of the organization.

Thank you for your support and helping Connect Students to Their Future!

Los Alamitos High School Sweeps
Photo Challenge

Armed with a digital camera, students at the Digital Media Arts Career Exploration Career Day on January 19th, took on the challenge of creativity given to them by Al Nomura, a local photographer.  During Al's presentation, he gave the students the following guideline; "You have 30 minutes to take a photo using the theme of "Contrast or Opposites."  The students were not allowed to alter the photos in any way and had to use their imagination to create an image with only what they could find at the event facility.

The following photos and judge's notes are for the top 3 winners among the 40 entries submitted.  The thing that impressed the judges the most was the depth of creativity and ingenuity the students used to demonstrate their ideas.

1st Place Winners - Maddy Walker, Matt MacCready, Caroline Snyder, Los Alamitos High School

1st Place Winner - Digital Media

Judge's Notes:  "We were impressed with two different aspects of this photo.  First, the placement of the girl on the hill to create the sense of her being small enough to stand in the hand of the boy, and second, the fact that they depicted an emotional connection between the two people even though they were a long distance away from each other.

2nd Place Winners - Joshua Friedman, Jessi Telechea, Andrew Woyshner, Los Alamitos High School

2nd Place Winner - Digital Media

Judge's Notes:
This photo featured the theme of contrast through the message that the photo is sending.  Through the use of cigarette butts they found on the ground, they created an image that became the inspiration for their pointed message.

3rd Place Winners - Alexander Bohlen, Joshua Rorman, Alex Remijio, Los Alamitos High School

3rd Place Winner - Digital Media

Judge's Notes:  The students used a humorous style to create an image depicting opposites with a minimum number of props but making a strong statement around the theme.

Over 320 students participated in the Digital Media Arts Career Day event, meeting business professionals, talking with college representatives and participating in a broad variety of hands-on activities.  If you are interested in being a part of future Digital Media Arts programs and activities, send your contact information to info@vitallinkoc.org
