Lights, Camera, Action!

Golden West College hosted the third annual Vital Link Television/Video Production Career Exploration event on January 15th, 2009. Students were given the opportunity to produce a TV show while mentors guided them through the process. The Golden West College Broadcast and Video Production Department provided the students with a real life experience that ranged from playing the role of the talent, camera operators and stage managers, as well as the technical jobs in the master control booth and remote production truck. Each student had the opportunity to try out a variety of jobs throughout the day to get a full picture of the entire process. Many of the students are currently in Video and Television Production classes in their schools and got a chance to test the skills they had learned in the classroom. Students like Yvette from Anaheim High School said, " I learned that there are many people behind the scenes that make all the shows I watch on TV possible." Instructor Joon Kim from Garden Grove High School said, "This is a unique and invaluable experience. The program showed behind the scenes into a world they would otherwise never experience. We loved it!" Vital Link Career Exploration programs are designed to provide each student with an experience that shows a work related process and incorporates career information about the people involved in that process. This method of delivery of career information not only engages the students but also broadens their scope of the opportunities available in an industry sector of interest. If you would like more information about the Vital Link Career Exploration programs as an attendee, volunteer or business presenter, please contact the Vital Link office at 949-646-2520.

Do You Want To Make a Positve Impact on
High School Students?

Vital Link is seeking individuals who want to make an impact on students in a positive and life changing way. Your support can help us provide Career Exploration programs to the increasing number of students who want to explore their future career options. Jeremy, a student at Canyon High School said after attending a Vital Link program, "I learned that people should always follow their dream to reach the career they want. It helped me to focus on things I really want to do. It inspired me to do something that can benefit me and my future." Alejandra, a student from Tustin High School said, "With this experience, it has opened doors for me. At first, I had no idea what I wanted to be, but now I know. I have to work hard and not be afraid of exploring new things. I will take advantage of the opportunities and will learn and have a great experience." You can be part of the team of supporters that make these experiences available to students like Jeremy and Alejandra who are seeking guidance and direction in their lives. A majority of our volunteers say " I wish they had things like this when I was in school; it would have helped me focus on my education in a different way." You can support Vital Link in a variety of ways that will help the organization move forward with it's mission. Portfolio Curriculum Impacts Students
The popular Personal Portfolio Curriculum and Pocket Portfolio tool are impacting students throughout California. Over the past school year, schools located in Folsom, Cordova, Riverside, Monterey, Los Angeles, Tustin, Sacramento, Apple Valley (and more) are using the curriculum to help their students learn how to document their soft skills in a way that is meaningful and credible to employers. The Portfolio curriculum provides students with training in some of the most important skills employers require for their new employees. If you are interested in acquiring the curriculum for your students or would like to make a donation to provide the curriculum to a school of your choice, please contact Vital Link at 949-646-2520 or Kathy@vitallinkoc.org.
