Career Day - Your Career Path Starts with Your First Job

Over 1,100 students explored career options in a variety of different industries. Each student could select up to four different industries to explore or focus on a single industry sector. Students went from breakout sessions on graphic design and animation to sessions where they learned about careers in the environmental industry.
Keynote speaker, Wing Lam, founder of Wahoo's Fish Taco, shared insights about how to start a career and build a future. After hearing Mr. Lam's story as a business owner, students were inspired attend the breakout session on entrepreneurship.
Presentations and demonstrations were the theme of the day. Students were able to handle the animals brought by the Orange County Animal Care Services, see what it is like to put a cast on a broken arm or learn about careers in the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry.
Over 70 businesses and colleges participated in the program to provide students opportunities to identify career possibilities.
This years Career Day program was a hit with the both attendees and educators. A special thank you is given to the program sponsors: the Environmental Training Center, Orange County Animation Project, and P.I.P.E. (Piping Industry Progress & Education Trust Fund).

Trabuco Hills High School
Makes A Clean Sweep
Students from Trabuco Hills High School make a clean sweep at the annual Trig Star Competition and Land Surveyors Challenge.
Over 200 students attended this annual event where students participate in a national Trigonometry Competition sponsored by the California Land Surveyors Association. Engineering firms and others who hire surveyors and civil engineers came out to support the students who tested their math skills and tried their hand at the Surveyor Challenge obstacle course.
First place winner Jameson Senger,
second place winner Christine Nguyen and Aparna Rajpurkar, Stephen Matz, and Kara Kuhtreibu who tied for third place all came from Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo, California. The winner's scores will be sent to the State competition and the winners at that level will go on to the national event.
The fun of the day came during the Surveyor Challenge when students, their parents and siblings all competed in an obstacle course requiring them to calculate angles, distances and heights using only their wits and any handmade instruments. Professionals were also there to give the students hands-on experiences with surveying equipment used in the field.
Sponsors for the event included:
California Land Surveyors Association, California Foundation for Land Surveying Education, Psomas, Rosell Surveying and Mapping, and Jonson-Frank Association.
