Effective Group Coaching Book

Greetings!

Welcome back to the February 2010 Group Coaching Nuggets newsletter, and welcome to all new subscribers. Since the launch of my book, Effective Group Coaching, last month, subsciber numbers have been jumping, a testiment to the number of professionals adding group coaching to their mix. Reviews from purchasers of the book have been outstanding, with a common question being "Is there really more to learn about group coaching beyond this book? This is packed with useful information I can use right away". The good news is YES, there is lots more to learn and discuss about group coaching beyond Effective Group Coaching.

The last month has been full of travel, great work and meeting many of you in person! Earlier this month I spent 10 days in Senegal West Africa, training  a new cadre of internal coaches for UNICEF. Travel closer to home this last month  had me speaking at the Annual HRPA conference in Toronto, leading cross-cultural training in Montreal, and heading later this week to Ottawa and Sudbury to deliver presentation skills training. Our programs go on the road, so if you, or a group you know of, are interested in banding together for some hands-on training in group coaching, train the trainer, or facilitation skills, drop me an email and let's see when we can get together.

This month's newsletter includes:
  • Bits and bytes, and links to articles and blog posts with neat information and tools about coaching and training
  • Upcoming programs announcements including the 90 Day BizSuccess program (starts Thurs March 4th: afternoon), the Group Program Virtual Retreat (Sat March 27 10-4 pm ET), Workshop and Retreat Essentials, as well as our flagship Group Coaching Essentials program.
  • An excerpt from Effective Group Coaching: The Power of A Takeaway

See you next month!
Warm regards,
Jenn

The Power of A Takeaway
60 % of adult learners are primarily visual learners. As such, they gravitate towards seeing things in writing. Whether group work is undertaken by phone or in person, providing your learners with a takeaway can be a powerful learning, and marketing tool. A takeaway may be a small booklet, journal, postcard, bookmark or other.

When designing your next takeaway some key considerations are:
  • Make it relevant
  • Make it user friendly
  • Make sure it meets the needs of the client
  • Ensure that there is enough room to write in
  • Delivery mode - Virtual or Hard Copy? What will work best for your audience?
  • Consider your environmental footprint. Might you be able to provide your materials by USB, or have an online resource location where files are stored such as Yahoo Groups, rather than printing it out
  •  Replicate - Consider how can you repackage or repurpose it for another group
  • Is there space for learners to captre - Lessons Learned and Next Steps

What will a takeaway look like for your next program?

(Adpated from Effective Group Coaching, Britton, pp 146)

I look forward to being in touch next month with many more tips and resources. Thanks your continued support.

For now, best wishes for your group programs,
Jennifer
