The Roll Up!
April 15th - 18th, 2010
9:30 am - 5:00 pm
The Roll Up involves kiln forming, glass blowing, and cold working! It is a technique for developing 3 dimensional vessels from Kiln formed tiles. This workshop combines glass that is processed in a kiln then taken to the hot shop where the piece will be rolled and blown into a vessel. Students will have the opportunity to work with Johnathon in two separate environments; IN THE FUSING STUDIO - Students will create designs that may be simple in nature or as precise and intricate as they desire. These designed tiles are then fused in a kiln. After the fused tiles are removed from the kiln the following day each student will be taught various cold working techniques to prepare their pieces for the Roll Up process. AT THE FURNACE- Students will have a hands-on experience working alongside Johnathon in creating their rolled up 3 dimensional vessels.
