FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 3, 2010
Atlanta, GA - The Georgia Latino Complete Count Committee (GLCCC) has launched the "Si Te Cuentan, Tu Cuentas!" Census Art/Essay Contest to engage the community in raising awareness about the importance of the 2010 Census in their communities and in the state of Georgia.
The 2010 Census is fast approaching and will reflect the growing diversity of the population in the United States. The Pew Research Center estimates that Latinos account for half of the US population growth since 2000. The Census serves to allocate over $400 billion dollars in public resources to communities based on the population count, therefore, it is imperative to have an accurate count of all persons, including Latinos and immigrants in the United States.
The GLCCC Contest is open to all students and adults residing in the state of Georgia regardless of race or ethnicity. However, it is geared to raise awareness about the Census within the Latino community. Entries will judged by official GLCCC judges and also by voters on www.latino2010.org . The deadline for contest entries in February 19, 2010. The deadline for online voting is March 5, 2010 and a reception for contest winners will be held on March 20, 2010.

About the Georgia Latino Complete Count Committee (GLCCC)
On June 12th in Norcross, GA, Georgia leaders
convened to move forward with the Census 2010 Latino Complete Count
Committee. Complete Count Committees are volunteer teams consisting of
community leaders, faith-based groups, schools, businesses, media
outlets and others working together to ensure an accurate count for
distribution of federal funds for schools, roads and other services and
for representation in Congress.
The GLCCC is vital to reach the
traditionally hard to count Hispanic/Latino community and is developing
targeted out-reach plans specific to the Hispanic/Latino community to
help inform local residents of the importance of responding to the Census. The participation of community leaders is very important to
ensure that the 2010 count reflects the new portrait of America, a more
diverse nation including the Hispanic/Latino community. www.latino2010.org
