Greetings!
 Today is The National Day Of Prayer, a day proclaimed throughout the nation by several of the Nation's Presidents in times of great national challenge and uncertainty. Presidents Washington, Adams, Madison, Tyler, Taylor, Buchanan, Lincoln, Johnson, Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, Nixon, Reagan and each president since, have proclaimed the first Thursday of May a national day of prayer. |
The history of calling the nation to prayer by our Presidents
There have been 137 national calls to prayer, humiliation, fasting and thanksgiving by the President of the United States (1789-2011). There have been 59 Presidential Proclamations for a "National Day of Prayer" (1952-2011). Every President since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation. Records indicate there have been 965 state and federal calls for national prayer since 1775 and counting. The most familiar, truly humble, and biblically accurate Call To Prayer was by Abraham Lincoln: Lincoln's Call To The Nation To Prayer The 2012 National Day Of Prayer Proclamation The difference is...vast, biblically, theologically, and culturally, reflecting extreme ignorance of Biblical truth, and the power of God through prayer that is evident in the White House. The secularization and redefinition of God to include any god, any religion, and a humanistic view of both god and prayer - if allowed to continue - will be the end of any meaningful call to prayer by our Presidents. |
 LORD God of creation, God of our Fathers, You are the only true God, the Author of all wisdom, blessing, power, and grace. You have been our bulwark as a people and as a nation. It is not You who have changed, but we in our ignorance and pursuit of this world's pleasures and false security. Forgive us for choosing people to lead us who have no understanding of Your Word, Your Ways, and Your Truth. Deliver us from what we have done as citizens that have left us morally, spiritually and financially bankrupt. We pray on this day of prayer for our brethren, our families, our friends and neighbors, and our spiritual leaders. Intervene by Your power to bring us to our knees in repentance and brokenness, that the prayer of Abraham Lincoln would once again be upon our lips and in our hearts. In the only Name in which there is power to save, intervene, and change our hearts, Jesus Christ. Amen. |
