Call to Prayer

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Understanding the difference

October 16, 2011
Greetings!

On Sunday, October 9th, I addressed the controversy about whether Mormons were Christians, a controversy that erupted from the statement of a Baptist Pastor who stated that Mormonism was a 'cult', and the rebuke of this Pastor by several Republican candidates for President, several of which stated they believed that Mormons were Christians.

Although what I wrote was factual based on the writings of Joseph Smith, their founder, and the sources upon which their beliefs are built, many Mormons who read my commentary were offended.  Ignoring the factual basis of my comments, many asserted I was "ignorant of the truth", and engaging in "lies".

On Monday, Dr. Albert Mohler, President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary - the flagship school of the Southern Baptist Convention and one of the largest seminaries in the world, published an article on the same issue titled, "Mormonism, Democracy, and the Urgent Need for Evangelical Thinking."

The article by one of the most highly respected Biblical Theologians in the world today, further clarifies the historic distinctions between Mormon teachings and accepted Christian Doctrine.

In light of contemporary confusion in both the secular and Christian world and well meaning members of "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" about those distinctions, and the importance of understanding the difference, I commend this article for your thoughtful review.

Restore America

LORD Jesus, you warned us that at the end of the age many would come who would deceive many, even the elect, and would lead others astray with false teaching and the appearance of righteousness. Thank You LORD for giving us a full and complete revelation of Who You are, our sin nature and problem, salvation through faith and faith alone, and things to come. Thank You LORD that we can depend on that revelation, that it is sufficient, reliable, and meant for every generation. Thou hast surely inscribed on the heart of John the revelator and Apostle to write,

"If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."

LORD, we pray that our friends, neighbors and family will not fall prey to the evil one, the author of lies and deceiver of the world, but will turn to worship You and You alone. In the Name of Jesus of Nazareth, eternal God, and our Savior, we pray, Amen.
