The Day Before Christmas
Little eyes, little hearts, and the meaning of gifts

"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High. . . and of His Kingdom there will be no end. . . The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God."
Luke 1:31-32,33,35 |

Greetings!
It is early morning, the day before Christmas. I was awakened to little feet and voices padding down the hall toward the lighted Christmas tree. After I showered and made myself presentable, I found my two grandchildren lying on their tummies, perusing the gifts before their eyes. With rapturous
faces and excited voices, they were touching the gifts they had discerned were theirs, as little children do who want to see and possess what they know is meant for them. |

Christmas is like that
It is the anticipation of receiving something new, something we hope will bring us joy, even for a day, a month, or a year, and maybe even a lifetime. It is about giving something precious to a person or persons we love. It is about receiving and giving, about blessing and encouragement. We are made in His Image for both.
May we receive the blessing of the Son of God coming to His own...as little children, in child like faith, eager to embrace with wonder and joy, His gift of forgiveness of our sins, empowerment to give, and His presence in our lives for eternity.
This morning, little eyes studied me closely to see if I would give them permission to open one gift each. As soon as I said they would have to ask permission from their mother and father they were off like a shot down the hall to see if mom and dad were awake to extract the decision they wanted. In seconds they came bounding down the hall to open the coveted presents only minutes earlier they had beheld.
Like my grandchildren this morning, marvel at the Gift God has given us in Christ's birth. Eagerly seek to open and know the gifts that He has given us, that you too would receive the blessings from our heavenly Father. You have his permission.

"I have come that they might have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
John 10:10
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, for My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Matthew 11:28-30 |
