Obama Dreaming

Reality Check - For all of us!

January 28, 2011

Greetings!

It is easy to dream about what we want, but quite another to properly assess all factors pertinent to the development of a serious and thoughtful plan to accomplish what is envisioned.

On Tuesday night in his State of The Union Address, Barack Obama failed to address the most fundamental challenges that face the American people, the Congress of the United States, and his Administration, namely, federal spending, soaring deficits, and unemployment.  Instead, he reverted to the 2008 campaign form he used to deceive the public, the pundits, the ignorant, and the uninformed - the promise of better times ahead, generalities without a plan, and more government 'investment', to fix our national ills. Translated: more government intrusion into the private sector, increasing government control, and more spending!

It worked in 2008 to get him elected. He is counting on it to work again as he ramps up for the 2012 election with soaring rhetoric and appeals to our dreams. As then, he provides no plan to make it all work. But from the thinking person's point of view, it is more of the same, a continuation of what the voters said as loudly as possible they did not want, a nightmare that won't go away until he is removed from office.  Barack Obama is an ideologue, not a statesman, a community organizer, but a wise and selfless leader at a time when that is what we need?  That. . . he is not.

Reality

Business men and women, to ensure the success of their vision, must assess and deal with real world facts that if not considered wisely, can destroy their business, jobs for their employees, and decrease federal and state revenue. Barack Obama, based on his address to the nation, appears unable to either assess the facts properly or deal with them wisely.  Consider:

  • 142 million Americans were employed the day before Mr. Obama took office.  139 million are employed today.
  • The total debt was $10.6 trillion before his inauguration and $14.2 trillion today, unsustainable and unconscionable, yet with no sign from Obama that he has a plan to attack the out of control spending, or even plans to;  a fact that Republicans warn must be addressed immediately, but which Obama gave only lip service.
  • After ramping up federal spending levels he only "touched on the need for deficit reduction " in his State of the Union speech Tuesday. Not just odd, but a sure sign of unwillingness to make the hard decisions that might offend his base of support.
  • The CBO (Congressional Budget Office) on Wednesday, the day after Obama's address, said that if we continue on the current path, the deficit will increase by 14% this year.
  • "He called for a five-year freeze on non-mandatory domestic spending, a proposal he estimated would save $400 billion over the next decade . . .  But the $400 billion in proposed savings adds up to less than one-third of this year's projected deficit" and makes hardly a dent in the $14.2 trillion debt. What good is a 'freeze' when the spending under his administration skyrocketed out of control, and multiplied our deficit?  It only repeats the annual deficit and increases the debt.
  • With a $1.5 trillion deficit projected for 2011 with current spending, you might think he would spend more than a few minutes on the greatest immediate threat to America, but instead talked more about 'investments', (spending)!
  • CBO Director ElmendorfCongressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf, testified before the Senate Budget Committee on Thursday, saying that "cumulative deficits over the next 10 years could run anywhere from $7 trillion to $12 trillion" (added to the the current $14.2 trillion) . . . that "Congress will have to start balancing the budget soon if it wants to head off, or at least minimize, the chance of a national debt-driven fiscal calamity in the future."  You would think that this President, who would like us to believe he has our best interests in mind, and who at the outset of his message said, "Our Constitution declares that from time to time, the President shall give to Congress information about the state of our union", might have stated such facts in his address and offered a bold and redeeming plan to reverse course, cut spending, tackle entitlements, remove unnecessary agencies and paperwork; and restore the confidence and free enterprise spirit that has been at the forefront of every era of prosperity in our history.  But no, that would make political enemies of his heretofore friends on the left.  He is not willing to sacrifice his political standing for the sake of empowering the nation and the households he says he is so concerned about.
  • "He called for action on reforming entitlements like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, without offering specifics" while encouraging new 'investments' in infrastructure and energy policy; with an emphasis on more expensive solar and biofuel that will, by all accounts, astronomically increase the cost of energy for all Americans.  While we watch our gas prices soar, he refuses to take steps to re-open our own oil laden fields to relieve our dependence on foreign oil.  Why?  He does not want to lose the political support of the Sierra Club and other environmental groups.  In short, he will tie our hands and the skill he so praises, and sacrifice our future for his own political gain.
  • In spite of Obama's promise to decrease the cost of healthcare, Robert Foster, Chief Actuary for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), yesterday admitted under questioning by a house panel that the cost per person of Obamacare would increase, not decrease, a fact the administration did not want revealed.
  • Obama asserted the worst of this recession was over, but first-time applications for unemployment rose to 454,000 as reported the day after his address, the highest level since late October.  His statement that "the storm is past' with regard to the economy, is pure deception when we are warned by experts that a double dip recession is possible with a second wave of foreclosures soon to hit the market place.

Shattered Dreams

There is more, much more, that could be said about Obama's address, but suffice it to say that the attack on the true "American Dream" continues, not by the Tea Party or Republicans, but by an ideologically driven President with an astonishing lack of common sense and respect for the American people.

One day we will have to wake up to the reality that this President is doing more damage to America and all Americans than good.  He lives, speaks, and operates in his own distorted dream world of doing "big things" no matter what it costs, and who it hurts.  By his performance to date, his 'big things' are nothing less than devastating to all Americans, young and old, and yet to be born.

Smug ObamaThese six things doth the Lord hate; yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
