Haitian Orphans, And The Power Of Giving 

How our giving saves lives and impacts nations

After the earthquake, most of Haiti was without power and still is. The presenter told those in attendance how a solar powered generator that had been given to a pastor to provide power to his orphanage was being used to power a reverse osmosis water filtration system that provided the only pure drinking water in this particular part of Haiti.

Shortly after getting the generator set up, a cholera epidemic swept through the area and killed almost everyone. Everyone except the 77 orphans and about 300 others who were able to drink the purified water. Without the generator provided by concerned American donors, they all would have died.

After making the presentation the Colonel stopped to call the pastor at the orphanage in Haiti on his cell phone. He put the phone on speaker and you could hear a pin drop in the room. The pastor in charge of the orphanage answered, and thanked them all  for donating the technology that kept 377 people alive through hell on earth. He then turned his own cell phone toward the surviving orphans who sang a Christmas song to those forty people in that restaurant; a joyous, beautiful song from kids with amputated arms, amputated legs and no living family left on this earth. Most of those whose donations made this possible were overwhelmed and in tears as they realized their combined gifts saved 377 lives, 77 of which less privileged than them all sang a song of thanks and worship.
