Giving Thanks - America's Cornerstone

Grattitude and Giving Thanks - The key to a happy life

November 24, 2010

Greetings!

The night before Jesus of Nazareth was put to death on the Cross, he met with his disciples to have what has come to be called The Last Supper, at which he took bread and after having "given thanks" (I Corinthians 11:23-26), broke it and said to His disciples, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

                    The Last Supper

Jesus spoke of Himself as the Chief Cornerstone as did the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:20, the cornerstone being the anchor point for the entire building; in this case, the Kingdom of God.  Even though He knew the next day he would die a gruesome and torturous death, He gave thanks.

For all those who know Jesus of Nazareth - not merely intellectually, but in spirit and truth - He is the cornerstone, the anchor point of our lives in which meaning, purpose, and an assured future, is both found, experienced, and enjoyed.

As we approach our day of National Thanks Giving, we would do well to remember that it is this Rock, this Cornerstone, from which all true and life changing meaning and thanks giving springs.  It is He and he alone to whom our Founders turned in the darkest hours as they sought to preserve their God given rights under the true King of kings. There is no other king, no other name under heaven in which we must be saved from the sin sick world in which we live. He and He alone is the lifegiver, and without gratitude, a humility of heart that is truly thankful for our blessings, there is no life, only heartache, confusion, disillusionment, anger and all that follows a mind and heart unrenewed by the Spirit of God.

In each successive generation, the realization of His provision, His faithfulness, and His enduring love, has come to be celebrated not only in remembrance of those early Pilgrims, and our blessings since, but in remembrance of His work on the cross, and in our own lives and families.

Classic early Thanksgiving Painting Those who landed on Plymouth Rock, even after the loss of over 50 of their brethren to starvation and disease that first winter, gave thanks to God - as did Jesus at His last supper - knowing their hope and their trust was in Him, not in man, or this life.

May we as well remember, and give thanks to the God Who so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son, that we might not perish but have eternal life here, and forever, in His presence.

Do you know Him, really know, and fellowship with Him?  Make this the greatest 'Thanks Giving' of your life, if you do not. Quietly, personally, yield your life to Him. With a heart of humility and gratitude, give Him thanks for dying in your place and for your sin, that you could be forgiven and reconciled to God, through simple child like faith.

You are not forgotten. He has known you from before the foundations of the world.  You have been in His mind in eternity past and will deliver you from all your sin, that in this life, and the life to come, He will be with you, and you with Him, forever. Do this, in remembrance of Him, and enter in to the fullest, and freest 'Thanks Giving' of your life.

I am come that ye might have life, and have it more abundantly.

John 10:10

...to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Colossians 1:27

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:3-4

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the LORD, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

Colossians 2:6-7

"To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power,

both now and ever."

Jude 25

Lincoln Memorial - MorningRestore America has been calling Christians to awaken to their citizenship duty and voting responsibility for eleven years.  Given the increasing threat to the well being of the nation by the ungodly and the salt and light ambassadors we are called to be by our Saviour, our message grows more important each day. Please help us continue this ministry
