Call to Prayer
Father's Day in America

June 20, 2010
Greetings!

Senator Scott BrownFather's Day in America is a bit of a two edged sword.  On the one hand, those fathers who were fortunate to have a godly father who was there for them, enjoy the blessing of those memories as well as the strength of character and confidence it imparted. Those who did not, more often than not, wander aimlessly through life, fathering children, but leaving a trail of sadness, confusion, loneliness, and despair, even violence, in their wake.

Fathers, and the Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God is built by strong and confident fathers whose life and character are shaped first in the home by loving parents and a relationship with the living God. They know who they are by knowing Him, and are committed to their wife and family. They have come to know they "are not their own" and are "bought with a price."

Those same ingredients build a nation "whose God is the LORD" and whose light shines for all nations as a testimony to the wisdom and power of the only true God.  The denial and rejection of these God ordained rules of life by individuals, communities, and governments, manifest in untold social, political, and economic chaos, devastation, and disilusioned despair for children, families and nations.

So to the father's in America who have yielded their lives to the God of the universe, and His "eternal rules of order and right," we commend you this day.  We are indeed thankful for your strength of character, your confidence in Christ, your service to your family, your church, your community, and to the nation, that we might enjoy the blessings of God.

Thank You!  May God continue to guide you and bless you in your fatherhood, to the glory of God, the blessing of your children, and the restoration of the nation.

Our Father, Father of us all, who delights in your children, find in us a heart to thank You for our earthly fathers.  Grant unto us the gratitude that leads to humility, and greater kindness to those we love and cherish.  Renew our minds with the memories of our father's sacrifices, their labors, and diligence in providing the safety we needed.  Remind us that in their sacrifice they mirrored Yours, and all for us. Forgive us for often holding them to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. As you have been gracious to them, be gracious to us Loving LORD. In our Saviour's blessed Name we pray. Amen.
"Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me, and keep all My commandments always, that it may be well with them and with their sons forever!"
