Call to Prayer
John Wooden: Coach, Teacher, Character Builder, Leader

The key to it all. . . His Christian faith

June 6, 2010
Greetings!

Where have all our leaders gone?  The cry today is for leadership, but what kind of leader are we looking for?

John Wooden, the legendary basketball coach of UCLA, went home to be with his Saviour and his dear wife Nell this past Friday night.  He was 99.  Prior to his death he was visited by many of his players and coaches who followed him at UCLA.  All revered him as a humble, godly man who impacted and changed their lives. But none of the accolades and accomplishments changed John Wooden.  He remained the towering figure of character, they all knew and respected, to the very end.

Fox News reporter Adam Housley, who knew Wooden from his days at Pepperdine and came to know him personally in subsequent years said it best in his personal tribute to Coach Wooden.  To this day he bears the mark of this man and carries in his wallet a card from Wooden to remind him of what is important.

One of Housley's favorite quotes from Coach Wooden is, "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

Unfortunately for America and for our children, the camera, the spotlight, and the bottom line seem to be far more important to our politicians and business leaders than character.

Dear LORD, thank You for men who demonstrate they take You seriously. Remind us that good character comes from the example of great men but great character only comes from men who truly know and honor You in all they do, no matter what. We pray for men who place obedience to You above obedience to men, for leaders who value others more than themselves, and prayer more than polls. Place them in our pulpits, our pews, and our politics, that once again we may be led into Your blessing, and out of Satan's traps. It is in the Name above all names that we pray. Amen.

A personal prayer request

The Summer months are always difficult for ministries financially, and our need to complete the web site upgrade, expand our outreach, and distribute the Pastors, Pulpits, & Politics booklet cannot go forward without your support. Please take a moment to ask our LORD what He would have you do to help us.

What we do

Lincoln Memorial - MorningRestore America has been calling Christians to awaken to their citizenship duty and voting responsibility for eleven years.  Given the increasing threat to the nation by the ungodly and the salt and light ambassadors our Saviour calls us to be, our message is more important than ever. Please help us continue that effort.

Thank you for your continued financial support. It is greatly needed.  God bless you all.

"If the people fail to vote, a government will be developed which is not their government...  The whole system of American Government rests on the ballot box.  Unless citizens perform their duties there, such a system of government is doomed to failure."

Calvin Coolidge, Thirtieth President of the United States
What we CAN do, and What we SHOULD do

Voting at a churchOver the last several decades millions of Christians, out of apathy, ignorance, or indifference chose not to vote in election after election. That fact alone has contributed greatly to the moral, spiritual, and political disintegration of America. That can be changed, as well as the direction of the nation - in this coming election - if our pastors and Christian leaders across  America call the people of God to their citizenship responsibility.  Please urge them to do so. Don't wait. Do it now.
