"Throw Away Child" and "Radical Obedience"
January 23, 2006
Yesterday, the day of mourning for the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to legally 'throw away' unwanted children, we heard on Focus On The Family the story of a young woman who overcame the excruciating emotional pain and damage of being sexually abused as a little girl for three summers by a trusted church member; and the daily pain of her subsequent abortion as she sought love in all the wrong places. Millions of Americans, like me, wept as this woman shared how this affected her life, and how God has transformed her. I could not help but wonder how many millions of living Americans have suffered and continue to suffer from such abuse, and the immense emotional damage inflicted on the innocent, for the sole purpose of private sexual satisfaction. The State of Our Depression
It was reported on at least two national media
networks yesterday that January 22nd is the most
depressing day of the year for Americans. I wonder
if those in the TV media connect the dots. On the
one hand they report on 20,000 people praying and
holding up signs in front of the Supreme Court, and
then later, announce how depressed we are on the
same day.
Could it be the deep remorse, pain, guilt, and personal shame that comes upon millions of Americans who have participated in sexual abuse, promiscuity, and abortion, either purposely or by deception? With a society now dominated by it's obsession with sex, self, and satisfaction, is it any wonder that generation after generation of our young men and women are more deceived and misguided than ever by adults who continuously bathe them with gratuitous superficiality and sensuality, all for money and personal sexual freedom?
Radical, Transforming Obedience
This morning, again on Focus On The Family, we
heard the uplifting and hope filled story of another
young woman who shared her testimony with a
business man and a young woman, seated with her
on an airplane; total strangers at the outset, and
completely changed for life as a result.
What is needed in America, as exemplified in these two women, is radical obedience to the life giving Lordship of our loving creator; such surrender to Christ that we are willing to share who Christ is and what He has done in our personal experience, with others, anywhere, anytime. The response to the reality of Christ in a submitted Christian, by two total strangers should say it all. They were radically and wonderfully transformed and as a result, not only testified to that fact, but lived differently privately and publicly as a result. America's Christians need to live differently that others might live differently as well. At the bottom of this page you will read a statement by Paul the Apostle that says it all. "For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
