Where Do We Go From Here?
December 28, 2006
Mocking Christianity is very much in vogue in contemporary America, particularly amongst academia, Hollywood pop culture and the media networks. As reported by Liberty Counsel, CBS and actor Charlie Sheen deemed it quite cool to ridicule and mock Christ, Christmas, and Christians in a recent program featuring Sheen singing about his sexual activity to the tune of the traditional Christmas hymn "Joy to the World." CBS made sure laughter and applause accompanied Sheen’s dirty little ditty. Rosie O’Donnell, lesbian icon of the left has also chimed in as have other liberal talking heads, to trash Christ, Christians, and Christianity.Clearly, the importance of one’s sexual urges and unrestrained moral proclivities amongst America’s enlightened elites have eclipsed the significance of the most profound event in all history – a conclusion that should be as chilling to Christians and all Americans as Iran’s prime minister denying the holocaust ever occurred.
2007 and beyond
The ever widening kaleidoscope of assaults on
Christian culture and influence in America will
continue unabated in 2007. The homosexual
community in collusion with America’s liberal elites will
push even more for censorship with “hate speech”
legislation, redefining marriage and family, total
control of what our children are taught once inside
the public schools, and the repression of all things
Christian.
So where do we go from here as Christians in America? Into Gideon’s winepress to pound out a little survival ration, repeating his unbelief and rationalization for inaction when confronted by the angel of the LORD? Depressed at the outcome of the recent elections, many Christians have entertained, as had Gideon, a ‘woe is us’ mentality of defeat, despair, and withdrawal, concluding there is nothing that can be done to stop the attacks upon the Christian foundation of America. They have concluded, as did Gideon in his time, and many of our brethren in recent decades, that God has “abandoned us,” consigning us to the ‘end times’ trash heap of lost cultures, with no interest in restoring righteousness. Nothing could be further from the truth! After listening to Gideon question God’s faithfulness to His people, saying, “But now the LORD has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian”, the LORD “looked (directly, intently) at Gideon and said: Go in this your strength and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?” God has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow! He is not whimsical and vacillating as is man. He cannot change His nature. He is for the righteous and against evil doers. He wishes to bless and not curse. And just as he was with Gideon, who was inadequate and incapable in his own eyes, so He will be with His people today when they recognize that He has ‘sent’ us, and will be ‘with’ us as we stand against the ungodly, refuting and defeating their rebellious reasonings and attempts to rid our nation of the truth of God. unbelieving culture around us. Gideon worked through his unbelief and took action, as should we. And when he prevailed, it was not with a large army of 32,000 who had gathered at his call, but with 300 who were willing to go into battle vastly outnumbered with only a trumpet, a clay pot, and a torch inside those pots.
Trumpets, pots, and fire
To the unenlightened mind, going into
battle ‘outnumbered and outgunned,’ is a prescription
for disaster. But not if God has ‘sent’ us and is ‘with
us!’ We are the ‘clay pots’, the vessels God
dwells in, chooses to use, and wins victories through!
Our voices are the ‘trumpets’ that God uses
to speak into the darkness and call our brethren to
action.
And the ‘torches’ inside of these ‘clay pots’? None other than the hearts of Spirit filled men imbued with the burning desire to see God glorified on the earth; those who are yielded and obedient to Him; willing to go to battle with the enemies of God with only God Himself; men whose words and deeds manifest the light that pierces the darkness, disarms the enemy, and leads to victory.
Breaking the 'Pots'
No victory over those who ignore God and enthrone
man will be won in America without God’s people
being ‘broken’ as were those clay pots before their
lights could shine in the darkness. American
Christians must be broken of our Gideon like doubt
and unbelief, our foolish belief that man is greater
than God, that He has ‘abandoned’ His people, and
that we, like Gideon, are powerless in the face of
man’s arrogance and worldly power.
Igniting the Fire
As the Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians, “Stand firm
therefore having girded your loins with truth.”
Stand firm Christian! Do not be dismayed. Put on the whole armor of God and be filled with the Spirit. The One Who has called us to battle unrighteousness, has sent us and will be with us in victory.
