VOTING! A "Solemn Trust" for which we are Accountable!

Beloved of God, Samuel Adams, 1722-1803, "Father of the American Revolution," and Signer of the Declaration of Independence, said "Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote...that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country." (Emphasis mine) VOTING! A "Duty", "Privilege", and in our best "Interest"

Supreme Court and one of three writers of the
Federalist Papers said, "Providence has given our
people the choice of their rulers, and it is the
duty as well as privilege and
interest of a Christian nation to select
and prefer Christians as their rulers."
And yet today, in America's evangelical churches, where these truths should be proclaimed unabashedly, they are rarely mentioned. The silence is so deafening there is virtually no understanding of even our minimal citizenship responsibility in our homes, our Christian colleges, seminaries, and pulpits. This failure to grasp our 'duty' and the 'solemn trust' which our Founders gave us, is devastating to the well being of the nation and the legacy we leave our children.

As a result, 19 million Bible believing, born
again, church attending, professing Christians
in America DID NOT VOTE in the 2004
General Election; a number that should shame us all.
We the people ARE the government
in America and if we who are the protectors of His
image, and the proclaimers of His 'eternal rules of
order and right' fail to exercise our minimal
citizenship responsibility, how can we really say
we "love our neighbor" as ourselves?
How can Christians expect anything good from civil government if we remain ignorant, indifferent, and passive, withholding the wisdom of God through our failure to VOTE? Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family said, "When we withhold our influence, we yield by default to those who promote immoral and destructive policies."
Voter Registration Cutoff for the November General Election
The last day for Voter Registration for the
November General Election in Oregon is October
17th. Voter Registration forms can be obtained
at your local DMV, post office or county elections
office.

churches in Oregon, to hold Voter Registration
Drives on three successive Sundays, October
1st, 8th and 15th. Click on the Value Your Vote
logo, and copy the announcement for distribution.
Pastors, please urge your congregations, including 17 year olds who will be 18 on or before November 7th, to REGISTER before the October 17th deadline, and to VOTE in this election. If they have not voted recently, have moved, changed their name, or wish to change parties, they need to re-register by the 17th. Please drive home the importance of fulfilling their citizenship duty. An excellent church bulletin insert can be downloaded from the Restore America web site here. Since we are a "vote-by-mail" state, registered voters will have their ballots from October 21st through November 7th, and can mail or deliver them to designated drop boxes as long as they arrive by November 7th.

we "silence (muzzle, render powerless) the ignorance
of foolish men" by "doing right." I Peter

VOTING is not only 'right', it is our 'duty', a 'privilege', and a 'solemn trust.'
